Put the phone away and look around you. Along fence lines, backyards, neighborhood trees, and on the edges of trails. Incredible food grows all around us. Blackberries, loquats, plums, citrus, muscadines, mulberries, walnuts, figs, chanterelles, bay leaves, pecans, persimmons, maypops, and all sorts of other foods have long been a purposeful part of our local landscape. Before our food system failed us, generations before us knew where to find them, when they were in season, and how to share their abundance. 👴🏾👵🏼
As a community grocery, we’re interested in bringing that spirit back. Let’s call it FORAGE CLUB. Another opportunity for y’all to play an active role in improving our relationship with food. The path to a stronger local food system doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Part of it is recognizing what’s already growing around us. Seems small but sea changes start from grassroots movements & perspective shifts. Why not have fun with it?

Like these plums in Riverland Terrace. NGL best plum I’ve ever tasted and it’s not even close. Wuddup on that color?! Notice the waxy coating? That’s a natural protective bloom. These plums were pointed out by a CSG member. We alerted some friends and next thing you know, a community pickin event. Imagine it. Kids picking fruit. People talking. Ain’t a dang phone in site. 🚫🤳
This ain’t about going backward—it’s about remembering the value of local knowledge, seasonal eating, and community stewardship. About reviving some of the simple practices that once connected people more deeply to the land—and to each other. Foraging reminds us that food doesn’t always come from a truck, warehouse, or supermarket. Sometimes it comes from knowing your landscape and being present.

Forage Club Reminders: 
•Take only what you need and leave plenty for wildlife and future growth.
•Be 100% certain of plant identification before eating/picking anything.
•Only forage with permission & avoid areas treated with pesticides or located near busy roads.
