The ride back to Assateague isn’t about spectacle, it’s about stewardship. The saltwater still clings to the horses, the morning air carries the smell of marsh and sea, and the only sounds are hoofbeats, gulls, and the quiet words between cowboys who’ve shared this trail for years.

The same ponies that thundered through the water now walk quietly through town toward the carnival, flanked by cowboys whose boots are still wet with the bay. Children wave. Families smile. For a few moments, the island’s history walks right beside them.

It’s more than a parade.
