Some of you may wonder why pasture raised chicken costs more than a bag of Walmart chicken breasts for example. I will tell you without trying to gross you out. And I will also tell you why buying our pasture raised chicken benefits you long after the delicious meal is over.

Commercial chicken farms pack the birds in as tightly as possible, where they simply eat and defecate for their entire (6 week) lives. Because of this, they constantly breathe in ammonia. The ammonia is retained in their meat--which means that you are consuming that ammonia. Further, since they don't move, they don't really develop "muscle" as we would think of it. To increase the size of the breast, commercial growers inject the meat with salt water (it says so on the bag). So that 3 lb bag of chicken breast really isn't 3lbs of meat. Since the chickens live their entire life inside, the only nutrition they receive is from chicken feed. Since that feed is designed to "fatten them up" as quickly as possible, think about what that does to the nutritional value of the bird.

Now, when it comes to our pasture raised chicken, we can only raise as many birds as we can graze. We have room for 100 at a time in a chicken tractor. This means that in addition to non-GMO feed, made only with WHOLE grains (not waste grain as is typical in commercial feeds), the birds get sunlight, protein from insects and grasses. This combination makes your chicken significantly more nutritious. Since the chickens live as God intended, they develop muscle, and a chicken breast (or thigh or whole chicken) is larger that a commercial bird--no need for a salt water injection.

Your body gets full when it receives the right amount of nutrition. With nutrient dense, pasture raised meat, you will be amazed when you can only finish half a chicken breast and have leftovers the next day!
