Is fall in the air? It sure feels like it, as pumpkins and mums are available now at our JFK Rd location. We open by 9am at the JFK Rd location, and close after we sell out of sweet corn (we stay until 1pm even if we sell out of corn beforehand, and if we still have corn after 1pm, we stay until it is sold).

We are getting in to the final weeks of sweet corn. We estimate it will end around September 26-28th, but we are not quite sure of the exact date yet. We will have sweet corn good for freezing (or for fresh eating) Thursday-Saturday (9/10-9/12), and also have our freezing specials 5 dozen for $35 or 10 dozen for $60. Then we likely start a new section on Sunday, and probably won’t have special pricing or freezing corn until about mid week next week (around 9/16). Now is the time to freeze corn if you have not done so yet. The corn is tasty, sweet, and beautiful right now. Like sands of an hourglass, so are the last days of sweet corn for the season. Come out and get the last few weeks of summer goodies. Stock up and eat up, before we have to go back to grocery store eating in the off season.

We will have sweet corn for your Labor Day weekend festivities. Tomorrow Saturday we will have our corn at the Dubuque Farmers' Market around 7am, and by 9am at our JFK Rd and Blains Farm & Fleet locations. As it is a holiday weekend, we suggest getting your sweet corn and other goodies early to ensure you get what you want for your weekend meals. We are starting a new section of corn tomorrow, and the corn will have smaller kernels. It will not be the best for freezing, so we will not have freezer corn deals. Perhaps by the middle of next week we may have some deals again, stay tuned.

The last day for the Blains location for this season will be this Sunday, September 6th. We will be open on Monday Labor Day at the JFK Rd location. We will keep our JFK Rd location until the end of our sweet corn season, which we forecast to be around the end of September. The JFK Rd location opens by 9am daily. The sellout/close time varies daily, so we always suggest to go to the stands early to ensure you can get what you want. We will continue at the Dubuque Farmers’ Market of course through October, although the sweet corn will end by late September.

The tidal wave of sweet corn is still upon us. We will offer our freezing corn specials for at least a few more days. 5 dozen for $35 or 10 dozen for $60. We are expecting our sweet corn to continue into sometime in late September. When the temperatures cool down and we are in our later fields, the corn may not be quite as good for freezing, and we may not have the specials at that time. The corn now is still good for fresh eating, but just has a slightly larger kernel size that is also good for cutting off the cob and freezing.

Our Blains location will be closed for the season after September 6th. Our JFK Rd location will remain open until our sweet corn finishes in late September. We will also continue at the Dubuque Farmers Market through October (although the sweet corn will end in late September).

To freeze our sweet corn, we recommend to cut it off the cob. We believe that this method helps preserve the flavor and sweetness the best. We bring a pot of water to a boil. Then add our sweet corn (husked of course). We only cook it for 2-3 minutes (blanching), and then remove the corn and place in an ice water bath. Doing this stops natural enzyme activity that destroys flavor, sweetness, and texture over time, and changes the sugars to starch. We want the corn to be just as sweet as the day you freeze it, with no chewy texture, and we believe this step helps. After the corn in the ice bath is cool to the touch, we cut it off the cob. You can use a sharp knife or specialty corn cutter. Some people like to use a Bundt pan to keep it in place. After cutting it from the cob, place it in a freezer bag, and put in the freezer. We don’t choose to freeze on the cob, as we believe the result when you cook it is not the same sweetness or texture as when it is fresh. While this is our preferred method, what is your favorite technique?

We will offer our freezing corn special again tomorrow Saturday 8/29, and possibly on Sunday. For Monday we will likely be starting a new field with smaller kernels. We will also have Idaho peaches again tomorrow and Sunday. We are open at the Dubuque Farmers Market at 7am and at the JFK Rd and Blains locations at 9am. See you soon!

We will have a few extra cases of tomatoes for canning tomorrow at our Farmers’ Market booth and our stand locations. These are roughly 25 lb boxes for $25 each. First come first serve. We also have many of the fixings for making salsa, in addition to our tasty sweet corn and other regular items. We are likely in the last couple days of peaches for the year.

For the remainder of the season, our JFK Rd location will be opening by 9am all 7 days of the week, the same as our Blain’s location (the JFK location had been opening by 8am on weekdays). Many of our workers are returning to school and the sun rises later, so we had to move the start time back to ensure we are able to get the corn picked in time to open our stands. Our Blain’s location will likely remain open until about September 6th. Our JFK Rd location will continue for the remainder of our sweet corn season, which we anticipate will last until sometime in late September. You all have been asking, and the field is now answering. Beginning this Thursday, August 20th, we will begin offering a freezing corn special: 5 dozen for $35 (instead of $40). Edit: we have now decided to go even bigger on this- in addition to 5 dozen for $35, we will go 10 dozen for $60! This is our best sale price for the season.

After we were plagued by weather damage in the first part of our season, we are finally getting into some sections that were planted after the unruly May and June storms. This will be big, beautiful, tasty corn that is great for fresh eating and also for freezing. We expect this sale to last for at least a few days, but potentially longer (once we can determine how abundant the fields are when we start picking the new section). The time is now to begin filling your freezer.

It is tomato season! Our field tomatoes have been coming on, so we have dropped back to our pricing from last year: now $2.99 per pound for our large fancy slicing tomatoes. We have our salad grade tomato value buckets for $5 per bucket as well. We open at 7am at Farmers Market tomorrow, and 9am at both our Blains and JFK Rd locations. If you are also looking for corn, we will have it. We recommend to go to the stands during the earlier hours for your best selection and best chance to get our sweet corn.

Melon madness is happening! Tomato and peach prices have come down to $2.99/lb (from $3.49/lb). Corn is beautiful and tasty today.

Tomorrow 8/2 until about mid week we will have the best looking sweet corn of our season so far, and a better volume than we have had recently. This is beautiful looking, nice sized, and incredibly sweet.

2026 has been a difficult season so far due to several weather events that happened back in May. Cold temperatures, high winds, and several large rain events impacted our ability to get in the field and plant, destroyed some plantings, and caused pollination issues with some of the corn we have harvested so far. After the middle of this coming week, we will have another 7-8 days or so of plantings with reduced yields. Then around August 15th and after, we are expecting to get into an area that was planted after most of the significant weather events occurred, and we expect good harvests from that point forward. We may even be able to offer some freezer specials around that time. We do expect our sweet corn to last until sometime in late September.

Stop and see us at the JFK Rd stand or the Blains stand to get some deliciousness. This is the stuff sweet corn dreams are made of.
