Neat find yesterday- Pheasant back or dryad's saddle. The big ones were about 8 inches across. These are better when young and small, as the old ones get tough. They smell faintly like cucumbers and melon. I will use the older ones to make broth and thinly slice the smaller ones.

I see people frequently using plant ID apps to identify plants. Worse, I see them verifying plant ID for people asking for ID help. Frequently the ID is incorrect. This is dangerous especially when discussing edible and medicinal plants. Below is a post I saw today. Luckily the mullein in the picture wont kill anyone, but it is definitely not a radish.

1. Unless you personally are 100% certain of a plant's ID, do not answer.Let someone who is qualified answer. Do follow that post to see if you're guess would be correct. It is a great learning opportunity.
2. When gathering plants, use 2-3 trusted sources. For myself, I am in some FB groups and know who the experts in the group are. I also use field guides for that region to look up plant characteristics such as leaf arrangement, leaf shape, etc.

There are thousands of plants with many having "look alikes", wome of which are dangerous.

It takes years of learning. Be patient. Don't rush to show off knowledge. Learn one plant really well then on to the next.
