Now that everyone is hatched out, I wanted to properly introduce our newest breed, the Silver Appenzeller Spitzhauben.
We ordered the eggs from Greenfire Farms, who imported them from Switzerland in 2013. They are a medium size breed weighing 4-5lbs and lay around 220-280 medium white eggs a year. They are great foragers and cold hardy. Due to their forward facing crest and small combs they do well in cold and are less prone to frost bite. Depending on their pattern they often look like they have hearts on them.

We are very excited to watch our new chicks grow and develop!
