Chicks have grown out of their inside incloser. Thank goodness for the nice weather. They are loving the chance to stretch out their wings in the outside pen. Mario and Luigi are very curious.

Soooo, I got a few more. Now we have 11 new additions. 8 easters/ Auracanas and 3 silver laced Wyandottes 😁 might have 3 roosters in the mix 😵

Instead of hatching chicks this year I bought some Easter eggers so I can hatch more Easter eggers next spring. Was hard last spring with only 1 Easter egger hen. Here are our 5 new additions 🥰

I went to put the birds to bed last night and found we had a visitor in the rooster pen. Thought Roo Daddy aka Mr. America was dead when I walked in, as he was laying on his back on the ground with his eyes closed, he looked roughed up with a little blood on his face. As I raced to get the rest of the Roos in their coop. I looked up and saw the culprit was an owl. It looked to be a small or young great horned owl standing on top of the rooster coop. Closest encounter I've ever had with an owl. Even though I was worried for Mr America and his condition I was mesmerized by the owls beauty and couldn't believe how close I was to it. It just sat there and stared at me. I think it wasn't sure what I was because I had my super bright hat lamp shining right at it. It finally relized I was a threat and tried make an escape through the tarps over the pen. As soon as it escaped I picked up Mr. America to check his condition, thankfully he was still alive and moving. After bringing him in the house and checking him for wounds, I was surprised I couldn't find any. We set him up with water and towels to spend the night in our tub and this morning hes looking good. He's up and moving around on his own and crowing like a roo..
