Come see us at The 2026 South Carolina Peach Festival as we celebrate the 50th annual event in Gaffney SC.

On July 17th in Gaffney, the South Carolina Peach Festival fires up for the 50th annual time as one of the Palmetto State’s best summer events! This July tradition has been celebrating Gaffney’s peach-growing roots since 1976, bringing visitors in during one of the sweetest times of the year. The fun includes Peach Jam in the Park at Jolly Park on Friday, July 17, with Wesko, Laci Kaye Booth, and headliner Kameron Marlowe taking the stage. On Saturday, July 18, the Peach Parade rolls through Downtown Gaffney at 10 a.m., followed by a full day at Jolly Park with vendors, food, the Kid Zone, carnival rides, a car and golf cart show, wrestling, dancing, and more live music. Earlier festival events include the peach eating and dessert contests, the Lake Whelchel fishing tournament and mudbog, and the pageant. Gaffney is also home to the famous Peachoid water tower along I-85, and the festival once made national news in 1978 when volunteers baked the World’s Largest Peach Pie. Add in fresh local peaches, summer crowds, and a full slate of hometown fun, and this is one of South Carolina’s can’t-miss July weekends!

Who else is counting down the days until peach 🍑 season and The Peach Festival?

The 50th annual South Carolina Peach Festival kicks off this summer in Gaffney, making for three days of fun celebrating the official fruit of South Carolina! Held in July 2026, with major events centered around July 17–18, this long-running festival began in 1976 and draws visitors from across the state during peak peach season. You can line the streets for the Peach Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, then head to Jolly Park for the all-day Vendor Market filled with arts, crafts, food stands, and local goods. The Carnival and Kid Zone open Friday, July 17, with rides and games for all ages. At Lake Whelchel, you can watch the early morning fishing tournament, the mudbog, and later enjoy live music, including the Peach Jam concert set against an incredible lake backdrop. Add in the peach eating and dessert contests, pageant, car and golf cart show, wrestling, and fresh local peaches, and you’ve got a full summer weekend in Gaffney.

Planting Peach Trees
Best Time to Plant
Dormant Season: Plant peach trees in late winter or early spring while they are dormant.
Soil Conditions: Ensure the ground is not waterlogged and has thawed and the soil worked and plowed for good root growth.
Site Selection
Sunlight: Choose a location that receives full sun all day, especially morning sun to prevent fruit rot.
Soil Type: Use well-draining soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.5.
Planting Method
Spacing: Standard peach trees should be planted 15-20 feet apart.
Digging the Hole: Make the hole large enough for roots to spread comfortably.
Watering: Water deeply after planting and apply mulch to retain moisture.
Caring for Peach Trees
Watering
New Trees: Provide about 2 gallons of water per week, especially during the first two years.
Mature Trees: Once established, they can go longer between watering, but keep the soil evenly moist.
Fertilization
Spring Application: Use a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) in early spring. Start with 1 pound for new trees, increasing annually. Do not apply fertilizer near the trunk of the tree or directly to the roots during planting to avoid damaging or killing of the tree.
Pruning and Maintenance
Pruning: Regularly prune to manage growth and ensure light reaches fruit-bearing branches. An average is 15-25% of the limbs should be pruned during the winter while dormant. This helps improve fruit size and quality.
Thinning Fruit: Thin peaches to 6-8 inches apart to allow remaining fruit to grow larger.
Pest and Disease Management
Monitoring: Keep an eye out for pests and diseases, especially in shaded areas where trees may lose vigor. Contact your Clemson extension office to help with pest and diseases.
