Confession time… I have never managed to master scones. I’ve tried. More than once. Mine usually come out looking like something that lost a fight with a lawn mower.

I’m hoping to have the wagon out tomorrow, but if you’re in need of baked goods today, do yourself a favor and check out Risen Hope Bakery and their porch pickup.

Their scones are quite possibly the best I’ve ever had. In fact, I may or may not have gone back twice in the same day. Was it for quality control purposes? Maybe. Was it because they were that good? Also maybe.

No judging. We all have our talents. Apparently theirs is making beautiful, delicious scones, and mine is eating them.

Go grab some before I make a third trip.

One idea that’s been on my heart lately is creating a “Shared Bread” section at the bread wagon. ❤️

A small community table where customers, who want to, could help pay it forward by donating toward loaves, eggs, or baked goods for those going through hard times.

Take what you need. Pay what you can. Give when you’re able.

I feel like I came across something similar at some point in time — maybe a coffee shop where people could pay it forward and buy someone a cup of coffee. It really stuck with me.

What are everyone’s thoughts on doing something like that here, but toward a loaf of bread, eggs, or baked goods for someone who may be struggling a little right now? 🍞🥚

Could be my bleeding heart. Could be perimenopause. Could just be the sourdough starter fumes getting to me at this point… but I just feel like doing a little something good. ❤️🙃

That’s a wrap! 🇺🇸🍞

All of the bread is officially out on the wagon for the day. If your loaf is still warm, you’ll notice the bags are vented and not fully sealed so the steam can escape and keep your bread fresh and crusty just the way it should be.

Look at these pretzels… WOW. First time I’ve ever attempted to make them and somehow they actually turned out edible! 😂 Usually my first attempts become a complimentary buffet for the goats and chickens, but these beauties might have escaped the “livestock taste-testing program.”

Not half bad for a rookie pretzel maker! 🥨

Now the real question is… should these make their way down to the wagon this afternoon, or do I keep them hidden in the kitchen for “quality control purposes”? 👀🤣

The Bread Wagon has officially rolled out and is stocked with your favorites — sourdough, cookies, cinnamon rolls, cake pops, fresh eggs, and more! 🥖🍪🥚

Additional loaves will be baking, cooling, and heading out this afternoon. And I’ve got a wild hair up my butt and may attempt some sourdough discard pretzels shortly… we’ll see if they make it to the wagon or end up in the “woopsie pile.” 😂🥨

A friendly PSA from The Bread Wagon 🥖🇺🇸🫶🏻

As we head into the warmer months, I wanted to share a little about Maryland cottage food laws and why certain items are — and are not — offered at the stand.

Cottage food laws are in place to help protect everyone from foodborne illness and to make sure foods sold from home kitchens are considered safe for public sale. That means there are some products I legally cannot make or leave out at the wagon, especially items that require strict temperature control or refrigeration.

As much as I would LOVE to cover my cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting, I cannot and will not. Frostings and icings offered under cottage food laws must be shelf stable, not require refrigeration, or be lab tested to verify they are safe for public sale.

Trust me — there are SO many things I would love to offer at the stand. But keeping this community safe will always come first.

The Bread Wagon does its absolute best to follow Maryland cottage food guidelines, practice safe food handling, and provide fresh baked goods you can feel good about bringing home to your family.

Thank you for supporting small farms, local bakers, and the people working hard behind the scenes to do things the right way. ❤️
