59 Acre Family Farm

59 Acre Family Farm We have been busy planting fruit trees, berry bushes, and most recently, growing specialty cut flowers we sell on our roadside stand.

We also do flower arrangements, sell flowers by the stem for DIY arrangements and/or build a bouquet events. The 59-acre farm has been in our family for generations. It is with great pride that I continue to farm the land like my dad (Leonard Bates), grandfather (Albert Bates) and great grandfather (Lewis Bates) did. We have been busy planting fruit trees, berry bushes, and most recently: flowers.

My love of flowers and gardening came from my grandmother (Peggy Bates). Growing up, I would always go and help grandma in the gardens. She grew the most beautiful peony, bearded iris, and daffodils. I used her peony roots and iris rhizomes to start a perineal flower garden on the farm. It is my intention to continue to grow and plant more fruit trees, berry bushes, and flowers. My dad and I have been growing vegetables as well. Many of you have bought vegetables and flowers from our roadside stands in Hubbard Lake and Alpena. This was our first year growing for others as well as ourselves. We learned what NOT to do and grow for next year as well as plans for an improved vegetable garden next year. We appreciate your patronage and kind words during these trying times. Flowerland Designs, a floral shop in Alpena, has bought some of my flowers to use in their arrangements. We have been collaborating on what varieties to grow that make my flower bouquets and their flower arrangements even more unique and beautiful. It has been an absolute privilege to share ideas and knowledge with Katie and her crew. Thank you for your business, Katie!
