🐔🐰 **Farm Update: The Highs, the Lows, and Moving Forward** 🚜✨
Hey everyone, we wanted to check in and give you an honest update on how things have been going. It’s been 38 days since we officially left the rental! Our transition started a bit before that—we moved the chickens over about 15 days before our move-out date, and the bunnies about a week before.
Sadly, this transition has come with some really heartbreaking lessons. Because we didn't have the best predator-proofing set up yet, we have lost almost our entire flock. In this short time, we were down to just one hen, our sweet Ms. Mary.
To make matters tougher, vehicle issues have delayed us from moving our camper out to the property. Today, when we went to check on things, we were hit with more sad news: our rooster, Fred, was nowhere to be found. 💔
Because of this, we’ve made the decision to bring Ms. Mary back with us for now. She’ll stay safe with us until we get the electricity hooked up at the property and can officially move out there ourselves.
But out of this heartbreak, there is still hope. Today we collected the last 3 eggs from the coop, which are very likely fertilized by Fred. We are placing them right into the incubator, hoping to keep his legacy alive. 🥚❤️
**What’s next for the farm?**
We aren't giving up! We plan to start rebuilding our flock by the end of this month. Before we do, we are focusing heavily on building a much more secure, predator-proof run and a secondary coop to keep everyone safe. 🛠️🔒
We also want to bring you all along for the ride more than we have been. As we rebuild from the ground up, we’ll be **going LIVE on a daily basis**, sharing the raw, real behind-the-scenes look at homesteading.
Up first on the agenda: This week, we are diving in and working on rebuilding our garden! 🌱🍅
Thank you all so much for your support through the ups and downs. We hope you’ll follow along as we start this next chapter! 👇
