Sheep are having a great summer so far, but it’s that time of the year again…Time for dewormer tomorrow! If you take a look at the next slide, it is a glimpse of a f***l sample we took yesterday from the sheep to see what kind of worms our flock is dealing with! This way we are able to properly treat the sheep with the correct medicine that will treat the specific worms we are dealing with. This egg you see on the slide is called a “Nematodirus egg”, characteristically large, thick walls and very distinct bundle of cells that look like a bunch of gum balls! Science is interesting, and with our handy dandy microscope we were able to identify this egg and know that a white worker drench (Albendazole) to kill off those worms and leave our sheep worm free and ready to enjoy the rest of the summer. Definitely one of the cool parts of this job. 😊

We always like to say a bottle lamb is always better than a deceased lamb! We picked up this cute little ewe lamb due to no fault of her own, long story short, her mama couldn’t take proper care of her so alas.. a bottle baby she became! We have decided to name her “Mary Jane” or “MJ” after the national holiday she was born during today. 😉😄

Trying to (gently) move these 1 day old lambs and ewe’s to the rest of the flock so mama’s can get some green grass. Then we had to stop for a snack break with the little guy! They have both got wonderful mothers, we couldn’t ask for better! Also, do not fret, the rope was just to catch her initially, notice how she is nice and relaxed while Harry holds her still for her baby to catch up on some milk! ❤️

Harry just dropped off our first batch of USDA inspected lambs at Eggers Better Meats & Seafood up on the south hill.

It is with a heavy heart that we have decided it is time to re-home our sweet Addie.
Addie is a 2 year old Purebred maremma and is very sweet, but she doesn’t seem all that interested in the sheep. Not a mean bone in her body, she has never chased, bitten or growled at any of our sheep she’s been with. However whenever she gets the chance she likes to run off and find cows and hang out with our neighbor’s cows. She loves them! She is hard to get away from them and doesn’t always come when called so this is not something we can allow based on our location. Her litter mate we got at the same time, loves the sheep and never goes anywhere! So we think it’s just a lack of interest in this job specifically. We have tried everything but unfortunately to no prevail. That being said, we would love to find her a home where she could maybe watch over some cows or even serve just as general property security. You could put her with your flock and she can be trusted, however she may wander off. Unfortunately we don’t have the fencing appropriate for keeping her with the sheep, her instincts tell her to hang out with cows, instead! PM us for info and rehome fee. Located outside of Ritzville, WA.
