HOW TO EXTEND THE LIFESPAN OF YOUR WEAVE

Many of us wonder why our weaves don't last as long as we would like them to. There are many ways to increase the lifespan of your weave whether it's beauty supply store or quality virgin hair. The key is to treat your investment, as an investment. Whether you spend $30 on your hair or $300 on your hair, you spent money on it; therefore, you should take care of it to get your moneys worth. Here are some tips on making your weave last longer.

Seal Your Wefts
This is something quite new to the weave world. Sealing the wefts on your weave will help with the shedding. Notable weft sealers: Fray Check. This can be purchased at your local arts and crafts store, Walmart/Target, or Amazon. Prices vary.

Avoid Cutting Your Wefts
This makes it easier for your hair to shed. Shedding makes the hair thinner and thinner as time goes on. Try flipping your tracks instead of flipping them. This will keep your weave all in one piece and you will notice a lot less shedding and spacing.

Turn Down The Heat
Just like our own hair, heat can damage our weave. Lower the heat on your appliances and make sure to use heat protectant. If you do not, you will notice dry/split ends. Dry/Split ends causes the hair to break and you will notice your weave getting shorter.

Reduce Washing the Hair
Being that the hair that you are wearing is no longer attached to a scalp, you do not have to wash it as often as you would if it was. Wash it only when needed. Washing your weave often can cause the weave to become dull; especially if you're washing it with shampoo. Just like our real hair, shampoo can cause the weave to become dry. If you truly feel that your weave needs to be washed, simply do a 'water wash' or a very LIGHT conditioner wash. Also, be gentle when washing your weave to avoid tangling and shedding.
