real good friends are just the BEST! and farmer friends that can find the energy to hang out on saturday after market are the realest goodest kind. the energy it takes “to market” is something that cannot be explained, it must be experienced. we work long days in the heat all week (yes, bakers too!) and then wake even earlier on the weekends to pack it all up, make the drive, unload it all, make it look all pretty for you and hope we have that home-grown or homemade thing you can’t live without… the wholesome ingredients for your next meal, the beautiful bouquet for your home, the kids’ sammich bread for the week… we do our best to have just the right amount, enough, and not waste a thing, because we care… about a lot. And all that caring and smiling and sharing can take more energy than a 15 hour day of manual labor in the heat. It’s a bit exhausting, but it’s also absolutely exhilarating, for me anyway. It truly fills my cup to be at market and talk about bread and life and music and all the other weird things that i might bring up… but i really don’t want to bake big this week and have nobody show up in the rain. honestly, it’s a bit much sometimes. so, i’m doin’ that thing where i remember i’m the boss and i can make the rules. i’m taking July 4th & 5th off. that’s next weekend. so, order what you need. i’m beholden to moods and weather, and while my mood is great, the weather forecast is not, so this is how i’m playin’ it. support your local farmers
