✨ A lot has been happening around StrawHat Homestead lately… ✨

Spring always seems to bring new ideas, new projects, and big plans around here. We’ve been working behind the scenes on a few things for the homestead that we’re really excited about. Nothing ready to announce just yet… but stay tuned because some fun things may be coming later this year. 👀

In the meantime, the kids have been busy building something of their own!

As part of their homeschool entrepreneur project, they’ve launched their StrawHat Homestead Farm Circus Scents candle line 🎪🕯️

They’ve been learning how to:

✨ Create scent blends
✨ Design labels
✨ Price products
✨ Run a small business

They’ve already shared their first three circus-inspired farm scents, and they’re getting ready to reveal five more soon!

If you want to follow along with their scent reveals, product photos, and upcoming releases, be sure to check out and follow their candle page. They’ve been working really hard on this project and are excited to share it with everyone.

Thanks for cheering on these young homestead entrepreneurs. ❤️

More updates from the homestead coming soon!

📣 The Wait Is Over… The Kids’ Big Announcement! 🎪

For the past few weeks Catherine and William have been working hard on a homeschool project here at the homestead… and it turned into something pretty special.

They decided they wanted to learn what it takes to start and run a real business, so they created their very own candle company.

🎪 Introducing Farm Circus Scents 🕯️

Inspired by life on the homestead and the magic of the circus big top, the kids designed their very first candle collection called The Three Ring Show.

Each candle is:

🕯️ Hand poured by the kids
🌿 Coconut soy wax
🎨 Designed from their own ideas
🐓 Inspired by farm life and circus fun

Their first scents include:

☕ Ringmaster Roast
🍦 Vanilla Big Top
🦁 Lion Tamer

We are so proud of how much they’ve learned already about creativity, entrepreneurship, and hard work.

If you'd like to follow their journey and support their new adventure, head over and like their page:

The kids will be sharing their candles, behind-the-scenes making videos, and updates as they prepare for their first markets.

🎪 Step right up and join the Farm Circus!

We know… we know…

It’s been a little quiet (Not really) on StrawHat Homestead.

But listen — when you live with 40+ chickens, a dog supervisor, ducks with opinions, and kids with “business ideas,” quiet usually means something is brewing.

And by brewing… we mean:

• What kind of wax debates.
• The house smelling like coffee one day and vanilla frosting the next
• Heated debates over candle jars like it’s a town council meeting
• Lots of math!

Apparently farm kids don’t just raise animals anymore.

Now they’re raising start-ups.

Let’s just say life around here already felt like a circus… so the kids decided to make it official. 🎪

More soon.

🦃💛 Emotional support turkey update! 💛🦃

Y’all, I never thought I’d be *that person*, but here we are… meet Bucky, my emotional support turkey. 😂 He’s gone from a tiny, fluffy little guy to a full-blown shoulder (and sometimes *head*) sitter in just two months!

He’s doubled—maybe *tripled*—in size, but still insists he's lap-sized. Whether I’m doing chores, having my morning coffee, or just trying to walk across the yard, Bucky is right there… usually riding along like he owns the place. 🐣➡️🦃

Farm life sure has a way of surprising you—but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. 💛

It’s a good thing he loves me 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Feeling like the absolute worst right now. 😭 I was in the pen setting up the ducks’ pool and picked up an old stump—when a gigantic spider shot out, I panicked and dropped it. In that split-second Huey, my sweet, curious duck, waddled over to see what was going on and the stump landed on him. We lost him instantly. 💔

The kids were sobbing, which shattered me all over again. Farm life can be magical, but it can also punch you in the gut without warning. I’m trying to turn this into a teaching moment—about accidents, responsibility, and loving our animals fiercely every single day—but wow, it’s hard right now.

Fly high, little Huey. You were everyone’s favorite splash-master, and your happy quacks will be sorely missed. 🦆💔

This is our life now 😂
So… what were *you* doing at 9am?

We were sitting in the chicken run, sipping coffee, watching ducks splash around like it’s a spa day while chickens (and Bucky, our little feathered troublemaker) used us as their personal jungle gym.

Ten years ago, I thought I’d be doing something glamorous—maybe traveling, maybe sleeping in.
Instead, I’m covered in feathers, possibly duck p**p, and weirdly… loving every minute of it.

Farm life: 1
Past me: 0

I know my husband loves me...
He keeps saying “no more birds,” yet every time I hatch a new idea (or actual chicks), he’s right there building what we need — like the new coop we’re working on now.

And just to prove it even more… last night, when we dropped our van off with the mechanic, there were 23 baby chicks someone had never picked up. Guess who came home with all of them? Yep, my husband.

No more birds? Famous last words around here!
Love this crazy life we’re building together at StrawHat Homestead.

Let’s talk about turkey! 🦃
Meet Timmy and Tommy—2 of our 5 turkeys here at StrawHat Homestead. These handsome guys are white broad breasted turkeys, and they *love* to strut their stuff around the yard like they own the place.

**Fun fact:** Did you know turkeys can blush? When a turkey is excited, agitated, or just showing off, the skin on their head and neck can change color—going from red to blue to white!

These boys sure keep us entertained. Stay tuned for more turkey tales and homestead happenings!

📣🐓 From the Coop to the Competition Floor! 📣✨

Here at StrawHat Homestead, we're not just raising chicks—we're also raising champions! 💪💙

Our very own Catherine and her cheer team have had an amazing season with multiple 1st place wins, Grand Champion titles, and have brought home medals, rings, and jerseys. Now, they’ve earned a FULL PAID BID to compete at the Nations Champions in Orlando, FL! 🏆🇺🇸

The bid covers their competition fees, but we still need help with hotel, food, gas, and travel expenses. That’s why we’re doing a calendar fundraiser to help get this hardworking girl to Nations!

If you'd like to support this journey, drop a comment or message us to grab your spot on the calendar! Every little bit helps this girl chase her dream!

Nations Champion is May 9 & 10

*This fundraiser is not associated with her gym and is independent. This means every amount raised goes straight to help Catherine with her dream of competing in Orlando!*

🐣🐔 **Exciting News at StrawHat Homestead!** 🐔🐣

Our sweet broody hen **Ruby** has officially become a mama! She just hatched her **very first egg**, and we are so proud of her!

She’s been so dedicated, sitting patiently and keeping her little nest warm—and now all that love and fluffing has paid off with a brand-new baby chick!

Can’t wait to see how many more she hatches in the days to come! Go, Ruby!!
