Quiet on social media means swamped outdoors!

Everything has been planted. Yesterday I counted 30 dahlia had sprouted, Tuesday was only 26. Many more to go! That means dahlia will be here sometime in July! Times flies and it goes so much faster than expected.

Zinnias and cosmos have also germinated. They’ll get thinned in roughly a week (weather dependent). Pinched maybe a week to two after that.

I’ll continue to stock the stand as I have blooms.

Until then, keeping up on weeding! The best advice I ever received from Back 9 Farm, Cut Flowers was hands down to focus on an area at a time to clean up. Yesterday I weeded my 8 raised beds for the first time and that was it! It was wonderful!

May is Mental Health Awareness month.

Today I stopped to purchase cookies from Forever Blue Farm and they were donating all proceeds today to a mental health organization. This card was in my bag.

If you’ve know me since childhood, you know that thirty years ago this month, one of my best friends took his own life unexpectedly. Today I am grateful there are more resources available. I am grateful it’s not a stigma to talk about struggling.

I am sharing this card to say that you matter.

We are restocked this morning with fresh bunches similar to this one picked this morning!

Parking note: please feel free to turn around in the gravel portion of the driveway so you don’t have to back out on the road if you want to. Please do not park in the driveways across the road - those are not ours and we love our neighbors!

As a reminder, because this has happened before, but for your own safety, do not wander the gardens. There are cameras on the premises. Thank you for your understanding!

A question I receive frequently is “Do you have a watering system?” Here it is! 😆

Over the last several years I’ve learned what plants grow well and where to plant them in order to avoid watering. That’s not to say I don’t water, I do. But I water very little other than dahlia during peak season and that’s only about two to three times a week.

Most Import thing is to know that every garden and grower is different- that is how it should be! What works for one does not work for all.

If you have a water softener, and are on well, make sure to bypass the water softener so the water is coming directly from the ground. The salt over the years does have the ability to change the ph of your soil. I am not familiar with how it works on city water. You’d have to do your research!
