Rose hips ::: The end of August brings about a depth and darkness amongst the brightness, warmth, and joviality of these sunny days. One begins to harvest the intentions they sowed at the start of the year, and bring introspection into the energetic qualities of summer's end - knowing intuitively that days are becoming shorter, and the time to wrap up projects is coming. The ripening of rose hips signal this period of time for me. They are full of vitamin C, which comes in handy through the winter months as we have less access to fresh green food. Nature is telling me to prepare the literal fruits of my labor to nourish my body, so that my mind and soul can reflect on the previous year. Periods of darkness are perfect opportunities for reflection, slowness, retrospection, and replenishment. I will make my rose hip jelly, move my actual hips to connect with earth, and enjoy these days in the summer sun before everything tapers off.
