It's world baking day! 🌎

Take inspired action to bake something today! Traditionally, this day is for encouraging baking and sharing your bakes with those you love as a token of gratitude and appreciation.

Today in honor of this day, I encouraged and watched my children engage in their innate love for baking. They made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies! 🍪 We thoroughly enjoyed the baking, and eating.. too many! We also gifted a few sourdough loaves and some cookies to friends and neighbors to spread kindness and love! ❤️

Did you know?? The average time it takes to make a great loaf of sourdough bread can take around 3 days!

The craft of sourdough bread making is truly a labor of love! 🧡🥖

What goes in to making a loaf of sourdough bread?

1. Making & maintaining a sourdough starter:
5 minutes, 2x a day, at 12 hour intervals, for a few weeks up to a few months until the naturally occuring wild yeast is cultivated! Then..
5 minutes, 4 hours before you want to make bread and/or a few times a week to keep the starter healthy and active

2. Making the bread:
2-3 hours to mix the dough in 30 minute intervals to develop the gluten and structure, then..
6-16 hours, depending on temperature, to warm ferment and rise the dough, then..
10-30 minutes to shape the dough, then..
12-24 hours to cold proof the dough to develop flavor, then..
10 minutes to prep for baking and score designs/expansion lines, then..
40-50 minutes to bake, then..
2 hours to cool before packaging

The end result is a fresh, gut healthy, deliciously divine, loaf of bread that makes it all the worthwhile!
