Some days are fun.

Some days are meaningful.

And then there are days you know you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

The first National Homesteaders Day Heritage Festival was one of those days.

We watched generations gather in the same place. We watched hands demonstrate skills that could so easily be lost. We watched families picnic in the grass, volunteers serve with full hearts, strangers become friends, and a ribbon get cut on something that had only existed as a dream for so long.

For a few hours in downtown Mount Pleasant, it felt like the past and the future met in the very same place.

And maybe that is exactly what National Homesteaders Day is meant to be.

A reminder that these skills still matter.
That community still matters.
That knowing how to grow, preserve, make, mend, build, gather, and care for one another still matters.

We are still reliving this day.
Still looking through the photos.
Still watching the videos.
Still feeling overwhelmed by every person who showed up and helped breathe life into this dream.

And now?

We’re dreaming about next year. 🌾

Because this was never meant to be just one beautiful day in Iowa.

This was the beginning.

A day off at Threshers… which of course started with Little Mama drinks, because after five VERY long days, we needed all the help we could get. 😂☕️

Today was the final day of Midwest Old Threshers, and there really aren’t words for this kind of tired. Five days of working the store AND our tent downtown leaves you with a level of exhaustion you can feel in your bones.

And somehow… your cup is overflowing at the exact same time. ❤️

There is just something about Old Threshers. Thousands of people pouring into our little community. Getting to share what we make and what we love with so many of you. The hugs. The smiles. The familiar faces that come back year after year. It fills you right back up.

Kenzie comes every year to help us — she’s one of Tatum’s best friends and works the tent right beside us because apparently she is a glutton for punishment. 😂 But somehow, she had NEVER actually experienced the Old Threshers fairgrounds!

So as tired as we were, we spent our morning doing Threshers.

We wandered the grounds. Rode the trolley. Ate the foods you wait an entire year for. Drank an ice-cold sarsaparilla. Met some of the most wonderful people. Saw incredible craftsmanship. Tasted things. Bought things. Hugged lots of people. And, of course, explored the Log Village — which makes me want to abandon modern life and move in immediately. 😂

After spending the week sharing OUR products with everyone else, it felt so good to be on the other side for a few hours… seeing, tasting, appreciating and supporting all of the incredibly talented people who make this event what it is.

Old Threshers is so much bigger than an event. It is people. Thousands of volunteers, exhibitors, vendors, makers, workers and families pouring themselves into preserving something truly special.

Our bodies are exhausted.

Our hearts are very, very full.

Our cup overflows. ❤️

Thank you, Old Threshers. Thank you to every single person who stopped to see us this week, and thank you to the thousands of people who work so hard to make this incredible tradition happen year after year.
