There are some stories in rescue that end exactly the way we hope they will, and then there are the ones that donโt.
Taylor is one of those.
We introduced you to Taylor during our Frantic Friday fundraiser - the little red Miniature Poodle who was adopted from, and then returned, to a partner shelter desperately thin and desperately sick. He had once been a healthy 14-pound dog, and by the time he was turned back in, he had lost 5 lbs.
Shelters are not equipped for sick poodles and they called us. We said yes. We knew something was terribly wrong. What we didnโt know was exactly what.
By the time Taylor reached us, his little body had already been fighting for far too long. We gave him every chance we could and then came the hardest responsibility we have. We stopped the pain.
Taylor is no longer with us.
It hurts, especially after the week weโve had. We have said goodbye to too many good dogs in too few days, and we went to sleep last night still sad about our losses.
But every day brings a new dawn.
Little buddy, we're sorry we didnโt get you sooner. We're very glad we got you at all. We tried, and so did three different veterinary teams. In the end, we couldnโt give you the life we wanted so badly to give you, but we could give you one final thing.
We could make sure you didnโt have to hurt anymore.
We will remember you, Taylor.
And this morning, weโll keep walking toward the dawn. ๐
