For this month’s Latinos Urbanos’ book selection, we read The Goddess of Filfth by V. Castro. Due to its bold delivery — think spiritual possessions and seances…we had to pair this with a bold 2020 Buena Vista Napa Valley Cabernet. Just like the novel with its plot complexities — this vino was fruit forward and yet carried us through a satisfying completion with its spices on the palate’s finish.

The bold and robust flavors of this novel wine mimic Fernanda’s and Lourdes’ character development in the novel…bold, rebellious, & complex. 🍷🍷

For this month’s Latinos Urbanos’ book selection, we read 𝙃𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙖𝙞𝙣 by . Because this book was so intense, we decided to pair it with a wine that was easy & yet complex. Just like the main characters, Gabe and his friends, this 2023 Chablis also stood on its own.

On the palate, this vino has a burst of flavors — all memorable. The creamy, yet refreshing, flavors of this Chablis reminds us of the amazing yet easy nature of this read: memorable…refreshing…complex..beautiful… 🍷🍷

For this month’s Latinos Urbanos’ book selection, Alter Ego by Alex Segura, we decided on pairing it with woman-owned wine — The 2022 Petite Sirah by Theopolis Vineyards.

Why this wine? Well, just like Annie from the novel this vino is bold, robust and full of surprising flavors on the palate. Like Annie, this wine is innovative and has a lingering finish that proves to be memorable. Annie’s story about being that come-back kid, the girl who beats the odds, reminds us so much of how bold it is for women in the wine industry to break barriers, regardless of what’s expected. A great story with a great wine never disappoints…Cheers!!
