I was out early today watering and putting the fourth string on the tomato plant rows and had to take a picture of the beautiful clusters of tomatoes. Our determinate plants are waist high and looking very healthy. Going to be a hot one this week so we should see more growth and production!

Today's the first market of the year! We'll be at Blessed Sacrament Church from 4:30 to 6:30 next to the food trucks...yes it's Wednesday in Wintersville also. We'll have veggie plants, herbs, and of course Mary's flowers. I took a picture of the tomato plants this morning while I was watering, and they're looking great too. Hopefully we'll see you today!

I haven't posted anything for nine days because we been very busy. Not only taking care of our tomatoes and other plants, we've been brush hogging and mowing for eight straight days on our other farm. It's finally looking pretty good since it hasn't been mowed in years. I couldn't believe how overgrown...some stuff was over my head...and that was on the tractor. I'll be posting some tomato updates soon!

We finally started planting our outdoor plants on the raised beds this evening. With the weather forecast this weekend, I'm glad to get it mostly done. Believe it or not the ground was dry enough to drive the tractor down the rows without making a mess. We planted cabbage, broccoli, green pepper, snacker pepper, golden dagger, jalapeno, and sweet banana peppers. We had special help from our neighbors today, because it takes more than me and Mary to use the water wheel transplanter ...so a big thank you to Jim and Cheryl for the needed help!

First tomato of the season! And the plants are loaded up with flower clusters. I was out for two hours pruning the plants and watering, and I noticed I was getting soaked. I checked the temperature and noticed I was soaked because it was 90 degrees in the tunnel already. But pruning had to be done today with the high temperatures expected today and tomorrow. I'll prune every leaf below the first string to allow proper air flow to keep the plants happy. Won't be long!

I forgot to take a picture of our raised mulch beds we made yesterday. I'm glad we did it yesterday...the soil would have been way too wet to do now and would have put our planting way behind. This is where our farmers market plants will go..and with an electric fence...too much deer damage last season!

We have more bees! Thanks to Broken H Farm for setting up these hives at our other farm...they are a welcomed addition. There are 60 peach trees and plenty of clover for them to feast on and the reward for their hard work will be fantastic honey.

Well...the tomatoes are finally getting big enough to start tying up. We don't need a strong wind to knock them over at this point. The Florida weave is my favorite way of doing this..I have a t-post every fourth plant because these tomatoes should have a minimum of 20 pounds of fruit per plant, and wooden posts will not support that much weight. I saw quite a few flower clusters on them already!

A lot of rain in the forecast, so it's a good time to get some ground work done to allow my cover crop to incorporate with the soil. This field will be where we'll have our covered raised beds for vegetables for the farmers market. Last year's cover was also incorporated into the soil because it's biodegradable and adds starches to the soil too. Hopefully in a week or so we'll be installing the raised beds.

Just got back from the farm...had to turn the temporary heat off in the tunnel for the second time this weekend. These frost advisories in May keeps me busy with heating the greenhouse and high tunnel overnight. Hopefully that's it for this year but who knows. There's been past seasons I've been worried about frost near mid-May...I guess just keep an eye on the forecast and fingers crossed!
