Reposting for visibility: It's important to make the effort to keep these great Omaha institutions going. Get your steps in, it's worth it.
Ok Omaha, it's time for real talk.
We met with a supervisor from Hawkins construction last week and asked if he could make it just a little bit harder to get to us. He replied "hold my beer," called us b*tchtatoes and left. Ok only the very first sentence of that is true.
We did meet with a gentleman from Hawkins last week. He initiated the meeting and spent over 2 hours with us, explaining the ins and outs of the plan, the possible delays, why these delays may happen, best and worst case scenarios. He listened to our concerns, explained why some things had to happen and actively looked at solutions for others. It was incredibly nice to feel heard and to get some real, honest answers. He even made the mistake of, not knowing of our excessive binge drinking and constant need for attention, gave us his personal phone number if we needed anything
The point is, we have been, and probably will continue to complain about this. Look, we all have our views on the streetcar and the ex*****on of it. But at the end of the day, these men and women are just doing what we're doing; working hard and trying to feed their families. Sometimes we forget that this page isn't just shared with a few buddies, we have a pretty big reach. Do we hate the impact it's had on our business and all of the businesses along the route? Absolutely. Do we really hope that the city will work with all of us on a little help? Yes. But that being said, damn do we respect how hard these folks are working.
And all THAT being said, we want to still be here when it's up and running. And we want literally all of our neighbors here too. The amazing Maddie made us a map! These are all parking garages around Block 16 and our incredible neighbors. We know it's super convenient to find a close spot, park and eat but for the next long while, that won't be a huge option for many of us. A little walk for a cocktail at Green Room or Mercury? A great laugh at Backline? A Lil walk for momos at Cattle call? The whole bird at Kitchen Table? Tacos at Mexitli? Beers and great food at Wilson and Washburn? All very very worth it in our opinion. And thats just naming a few. Absolutely refuse? Buy a gift card or ten at your favorite spot and use it later! Have a friend that hates us? Buy them a gift card to B16 as a gag gift. We are so thankful for all of your support and like we said, we just want to see us and all of our friends survive this.
That was a long, rambling way of showing you all some parking options. Have a great day.
P.s. we didn't mention all of the spots in Blackstone, midtown or on 10th and Farnam but it's nice out so we aren't going to go back and edit, we're going outside.
