🧠 A strong market isn’t just about filling spaces, it’s about building balance.

The best markets pay attention to:

• Vendor mix
• Product variety
• Booth placement
• Customer flow

⚠️ Too much of one thing and customers lose interest.
⚠️ Not enough variety and they don’t stay long.

Curation matters.

❤️ Behind every booth is a story!

Early mornings.
Long hours.
Trial and error.
Growth over time.

Farmers markets give people the chance to turn what they love into something real.

And every time you shop local, you’re supporting that journey.

👉 Have you ever met a vendor whose story stuck with you?

đź’° Pricing is one of the hardest parts of being a vendor and one of the most important.

If you’re pricing based on:

• What feels fair
• What others charge
• Trying to be the cheapest

You may be holding your business back.

Strong vendors price based on:

• Costs
• Time
• Product quality
• Sustainability

Customers aren’t just buying your product, they’re buying your effort, your story, and your consistency.

👉 Vendors, what’s been your biggest challenge with pricing?

Not all farmers markets are created equal and that’s not a bad thing.

đźšś Some markets are farmer-focused.
🌻 Some are artisan-driven.
🥩 Some are food-centered.

The strongest markets understand what they are and build around it.

Trying to be everything to everyone usually leads to a market that struggles to stand out.

âś… Clarity builds consistency.
âś… Consistency builds trust.
âś… Trust brings customers back.

👉 Market Managers, what’s the focus of your market?

🌟 FLORIDA MARKET SPOTLIGHT 🌟

Florida is home to so many incredible farmers markets, each with its own flavor, vendors, and community.

These markets aren’t just places to shop, they’re platforms for local farmers, makers, and small businesses to grow.

Strong markets don’t happen by accident, they’re built with intention.

🎪 Most vendors lose sales before a customer even stops at their booth.

Why?

Because from a distance, their booth doesn’t stand out.

The vendors who consistently draw people in use:

• Height (shelves, risers, displays)
• Depth (layered product, not just flat tables)
• Texture (wood, baskets, fabric, natural elements)

Flat tables get passed by. Layered booths get attention. Customers shop with their eyes first.

👉 Vendors, what’s one change you’ve made that improved your booth?

🌱 There’s something special about a farmers market that you just don’t get anywhere else.

It’s not just about buying fresh produce or handmade goods…

➡️ It’s the conversations.
➡️ It’s seeing familiar faces week after week.
➡️ It’s knowing where your food comes from and who grew it.

Farmers markets bring people together in a way that feels real. And across Florida, that sense of community is alive and growing.

👉 What’s your favorite part about visiting your local farmers market?

A busy farmers market doesn’t automatically mean strong sales for vendors.

This is something I’ve seen time and time again across markets.

You can have great foot traffic, a steady flow of customers, and a strong location…and still have vendors struggling to make the sales they hoped for.

Why?

Because success at a farmers market isn’t just about showing up, it’s about being prepared to convert opportunity into results.

The vendors who consistently do well tend to focus on a few key things:

• Clear, confident pricing
• A booth that’s easy to shop and visually inviting
• Products that are well-presented and understood by customers
• Engaging with shoppers, not waiting on them
• Treating market days like a business, not a hobby

When those pieces come together, everything changes.

And when vendors succeed, markets grow stronger, customers come back, and the entire community benefits.

🌱 Florida Farmers Markets Thrive When We All Work Together 🌱

There’s a common misconception out there: that the state, cities, and communities in Florida only support or fund nonprofit-run farmers markets, while for-profit operators get left out.

The good news? That’s not the reality.

Florida’s policies, grants (including USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program and FDACS programs), and local RFPs are generally open to both nonprofit and for-profit operators. Success depends on results, strong management, vendor support, community impact, and keeping fresh local food flowing, not on tax status.

From our conversations and data:

• Nonprofits often bring strong community focus and access to certain donations, but many face real management and vitality challenges due to volunteer reliance and governance hurdles.
• For-profit operators (like many professional market managers) bring business discipline, scalability, innovation, and consistent ex*****on — helping markets stay vibrant year after year.
• Both models collect vendor fees, cover expenses, compensate operators, and serve the same goal: connecting farmers, makers, and shoppers.

The great part? Florida values farmers markets as economic engines and community hubs regardless of structure. The 2026 Farm Bill and ongoing state support reinforce this inclusive approach.

The ugly truth? When perception favors one model over performance, it can create unnecessary barriers and hurt small farmers and vendors who just need well-run markets.

At the Florida Alliance of Farmers Markets, we stand for all ethical, well-managed markets, nonprofit or for-profit, because strong markets mean:

âś… More opportunities for Florida growers
âś… Better access to fresh, local food
âś… Vibrant downtowns and communities
âś… A resilient local food system

We believe in raising standards, sharing best practices, and collaborating across structures so every market can succeed.

If you’re a market manager, vendor, or community leader, whether your market is nonprofit or for-profit, we’d love to hear from you.

🌱 Did you know farmers markets do far more than provide fresh local food?

They strengthen entire communities.

📊 Research shows:

đź’µ For every $1 spent at a farmers market, nearby local businesses see an additional $0.48 in economic activity

👨‍🌾 Farms selling through local/direct channels create significantly more jobs per dollar earned than traditional wholesale operations

🏪 Nearly half of farmers market shoppers also visit nearby businesses and restaurants while attending the market

That means when people support a farmers market, they are not just supporting vendors…

They are supporting:

âś” Local farms
âś” Small businesses
âś” Downtown economies
âś” Job creation
âś” Stronger communities

Farmers markets are not a side attraction.

They are economic drivers, community builders, and one of the most powerful ways to keep local dollars local.

Support your local farmers market. Because when local thrives, communities thrive. ❤️
