The warm temperatures and sunshine earlier this week were a welcome sight 🌞

We started harvesting our popular onions for this week’s CSA boxes — and a few (okay, maybe a lot 😅) may have made their way home with me too! 🧅

Fun fact: I’ve always loved onions — even as a toddler, I’d climb up to the table just to eat sliced onions straight from the cutting board.

And somehow all 3 kids inherited that same love for them — they’re always sneaking pieces while I’m prepping them! 💚

Can you eat the garlic scape flower bud? And what does it taste like? 🤔

Short answer: Yes it's edible—but it's not everyone's favorite.

The flower bud has a very different texture than the rest of the scape. While the stem is smooth, tender, and juicy, the bud is denser, more fibrous, and often has a stronger, slightly bitter or pungent flavor. Because of this, many people trim it off—especially when making things like garlic scape pesto or garlic butter—so the final dish has a more consistent texture. 💚

That said, the buds don't have to go to waste! If you're making garlic scape powder or processing in bulk, the texture won't matter at all, and you likely won't even notice a difference.

👉 So while most people skip the flower bud for texture reasons, it's perfectly edible—and in the right use, it works just fine!

🗨️ Do you leave the flower buds on your garlic scapes or trim them off? Let us know below!

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture 🌱
When you join a CSA, you’re supporting a local farm while receiving fresh, seasonal produce grown close to home. It’s a great way to eat healthier, know where your food comes from, and help small family farms continue growing for the community. 🥕💚

Our Summer CSA shares along with 3 different opportunities for 4 week Sampler CsA shares are still available.

Planting continues for the season with the best crew behind us. There’s something special about teaching the next generation where their food comes from. 💚

The kids were so excited when the transplanter got pulled out for the season 🚜🌱

For them, it’s a fun ride on the farm — and getting to help plant alongside us makes it even better
