Hawk Creek Prairie Farm is a small family farm seeks to raise healthy produce, eggs, grass-fed beef and free-range pork. While we are not certified organic, we raise all our products as natural as possible. It is important to us that we support the biological and ecological integrity of the land. Our animals are raised without the use of hormones, chemical pesticides or fertilizers and only use an
tibiotics when medically necessary. Steve has fenced our entire property by hand and rotationally grazes our steers. On one third of our farm we have a remnant native prairie that we work to protect and enhance through regenerative practices. We take pride in the fact that our farm has become an oasis for pollinators and other wildlife in an abyss of conventional agricultural practices. Our animals enjoy being raised in the least restrictive process possible. They eat a natural diet that is supplemented with fresh vegetables and fruit that we grow. It is hard to imagine but our steers and hogs love apples, pumpkin, squash, kale, brussel sprouts etc. Our chickens fight over fresh cucumbers, tomatoes and flint corn. When you purchase meat, veggies, fruit or eggs from our farm you are not only helping support our family of five but you are also supporting these other area family farms. Our steers come from a variety of area farms. Our heritage hogs come from the Bumpy Road Ranch outside of Aberdeen, SD. We source our feed for our hogs and chickens by mixing it from grains that are grown locally. This not only helps us keep the price down but it also allows us to support other area sustainable farmers. We use a mix of dried peas, oats and wheat from Falk Seed, Balfany Farms and others. We purchase supplemental hay from Toad Hill farm near Appleton. Kalliroe Farm outside of Montevideo provides us with windfallen apples beyond what we have from our trees for our hogs and steers.
