I have been sharing my story a lot more than usual lately. For years I kept it vague or told a more romanticized version. But now that my business is approaching 7 years, I find myself wanting to share a bit more about how I got here.

I grew up in my parent’s Italian restaurant. They opened their business in the late 90s and just like that 6 year old me had a job. I learned to cook at a very young age and always had a passion for food. Once I was in middle school, I was my dad’s right hand man at catering events. From weddings & baby showers to events like the golden globes after party!

I spent half my life working in my parent’s restaurant & then everything came to a screeching halt. By the powers of corporate greed & truly a series of unfortunate events, my family’s business closed. And before I knew it, I was figuring out how to attend community college and support my family who just lost everything at just 19 years old.

After putting culinary school on a credit card, I worked in bars and restaurants to help pay for classes & equipment. After graduating I stayed in the industry another 5 years. And that’s when I discovered my love for farmers markets! In 2018 I was inspired to start a business to pay homage to my family’s restaurant. In June of 2019 Not Your Nonna’s debuted at the farmer’s market!

This hasn’t been an easy road. I have built this business from the ground up. Sometimes I feel like I’m being outpaced by businesses who started way later than me and other times I’m just proud of how far I’ve come in truly such a short amount of time. Owning a business is hard, but our customers and my incredible staff make every moment worth it 💕

Farmer’s markets are truly THE BEST and have absolutely changed my life for the better! But it isn’t for the weak. Working in markets is a grind. Load up, sometimes drive 30-60 minutes to get to your market, set up your booth, work a 5-6 hour market talking about your product, repeating the same questions and telling the same stories all day, then break down & unload. On repeat 4 days in a row. We work in the rain, wind, heat and cold. We show up even if you don’t, because we can’t let you down. Our customers rely on us, because consistency is key! We get first hand reactions from customers whether it’s positive or negative. People can be rude, argumentative & even judgmental. But on the other hand, people can be so excited to see you, have been following you on social media for months and finally came to the market to try your products, finally saved enough money to shop with you, treated themselves to your product, bring their friends and family to meet you, gift your product to their favorite people, come to the market specifically for you! The list could go on for miles! The love and support we experience is unmatched 💕 We built this community brick by brick because of our customers! Without you, I’d just be a crazy lady slinging sauce on the street. 🤪
