If you've been on the hunt for a new breed to add to your flock this year here is your chance!! I'll have a 1/2 dozen Vorwerk hatching eggs available for shipping/pickup Thursday or Friday. All laid this week. 6o for pickup and 8ty shipped.

Vorwerk chickens are a rare, dual-purpose german breed known for their striking black-and-gold feathers, active foraging, and calm temperament. Developed around 1900, they produce a steady supply of cream-colored eggs.

Origin and History
Created in Germany: Developed around 1900 by poultry breeder Oskar Vorwerk in Hamburg.
Breed Mix:
Bred using Lakenvelders, Buff Orpingtons, Andalusians, and Ramelslohers to get a buff body with belted black neck and tail markings.

Near Extinction: The population plummeted severely after World War II, remaining quite rare today.
Common Mix-up: Frequently called the Golden Lakenvelder in North America, though that is technically a separate color variety.

Physical Traits Size: Medium build; roosters weigh 5.5 to 7 pounds (2.5–3.2 kg) and hens weigh 4.5 to 5.5 pounds (2.0–2.5 kg).
Plumage: Rich golden-buff body with contrasting solid black feathers on the neck hackles and tail.
Features: Slate-blue legs, white earlobes, and a single medium-sized red comb
Egg Laying: Lays about 150 to 180 medium, cream-to-tinted eggs per year.
Foraging: Exceptional free-range foragers that are economical eaters.
Hardiness: Highly adaptable and handles cold winter weather well.
Broodiness: Rarely goes broody, meaning hens usually do not sit on eggs to hatch chicks

Anyone interested in adding Crested Cream Legbars to their breeding program?!?! Fastest way to start your rainbow basket. This breed will lay blue eggs. If you cover them with a brown egg laying rooster the next generation will lay green/olive colored eggs. Hatching eggs gotten now should start laying at the beginning of the year for the entire summer next year!!!

The Cream Crested Legbar is a rare, lightweight British chicken breed famous for laying bright blue eggs, featuring an auto-sexing trait and a stylish head crest. Developed in the 1930s by Cambridge University geneticists, they are active foragers that fit well in backyard flocks.

Appearance and Auto-Sexing
Distinct Crest: Both hens and roosters sport a small, cute tuft or "p**f" of feathers on top of their heads.

Plumage: Hens are silver-grey with salmon-colored breasts; roosters feature cream and dark grey barring.

Auto-Sexing: Chicks can be sexed immediately at hatch by their down color. Female chicks show a dark stripe resembling "eye makeup" running from their head down the body, which males lack.

Egg Production and Temperament
Blue Eggs: They lay about 175 to 250 medium-to-large pastel blue or turquoise eggs per year.

Behavior: They are alert, friendly, and active foragers that handle free-ranging very well while staying relatively calm in urban settings.

Hardiness: They adapt well to both hot and cold weather conditions.

My rooster has white in his tail due to injury when he was a teenager. He got stuck and some older hens pecked off his butt, since regrowing feathers they come in white.
