As a little girl growing up in South Sudan, I had no idea about America.

Nor did I have any idea that someday I would live across the ocean in a place full of freedom called America. Words can not describe what my life was like growing up in South Sudan let alone how I became a refugee and relocated my whole life in a strange country on December 25, 2002. The war and all the atrocities associated with it, often kill many people and more than that, their dreams. When my

feet touched the ground in America, I was filled with fear and yet hope, however, when my feet touched down in Storm Lake, Iowa (May 10, 2011), I knew this was my home. This place was going to transform my life and my family’s life. I have always had a passion for owning my own business. My roots run deep and my heart remains very connected to the country I was born in therefore, owning my own business to serve the African community in America and specifically in Storm Lake, Iowa became my goal. A place to allow people to obtain products from our homeland. We may have been born there but this is our home now. Many times I have had the option to move but I tell my husband every time, this is where we belong. I know this is the place for all our dreams to come true. A place our kids can grow up and a place they can witness the growth of a dream that can be theirs someday as well. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve you—my customers and my community.

General lack of community support has forced Rebecca to make the hard decision to close the store. Final day the store is open will be Saturday, February 14th! Rebecca has made this decision with a very heavy heart and if she finds a way to re-open at a new location in the future, she will certainly be anxious to reconnect with everyone. There is still product on the shelves, so be sure to come in this week for your final purchases at this location.

NOTE—Rebecca will not be taking any orders for cooking this final week!
