A little PSA from your local sourdough baker. 🍞❤️

Today, someone reached out to place an order for two loaves of sourdough. Everything seemed like a normal customer interaction until it came time for payment.

Shortly after sharing my business Venmo information, I received a fraudulent text claiming a payment was pending and needed my approval.

Thankfully, I recognized the warning signs before anything happened.

I’m sharing this because I know so many other small-business owners who work incredibly hard for what they earn.

Please be careful when accepting payments from unfamiliar customers. Always verify transactions directly through your payment app, and never call unfamiliar support numbers or share verification codes.

It’s unfortunate that we have to worry about things like this when we’re simply trying to run our little businesses.

Hi! I’m Julianna (Jules) 👋🏼 I figured it was probably time I introduced myself and shared how Sunset Farmstand came to be.

I’ve been a graphic designer for over 15 years, creating beautiful things in print and digital for all kinds of clients. I’ve spent my career helping other people bring their ideas to life, but somewhere along the way, I started craving the chance to make something of my own.

Sunset Farmstand didn’t start with a business plan. It started with a sourdough challenge. 😂

I created my starter, Barbara, named after my grandmother, an artist who painted on canvases made from silkworm webs and earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. Creating things with our hands runs in the family.

One loaf turned into another, then came bagels, cookies, pretzels and a LOT of flour. And because I’m a designer, naturally I gave my hobby a name, designed a logo, made labels and dreamed about packaging.

For the first time, I wasn’t just designing the packaging. I was making the thing inside of it, too.

I’m a giver at heart, and seeing someone light up over a freshly baked loaf or sweet treat I made is one of the best feelings in the world.

Sunset Farmstand has become a family adventure, too. My two boys help in the kitchen and my husband has taken on some of the selling. 😂

And it was never meant to be just a bakery. We have had a garden, dahlias I grow because they make me happy, 14 chickens, four ducks 🦆 , three boxers and two baby kittens.

But maybe that’s why Sunset Farmstand feels so much like us.

The biggest surprise has been our community. You’ve bought bread, come back for more, told friends and made introductions. Gleaning House Pantry recommending me to Earthworks Trading Post is one of our biggest recommendations ❤️ Those connections are turning something I started in my kitchen into something rooted here in Pickens, SC.

I’m baking, growing, creating, raising my boys, feeding entirely too many animals 😂 and building this little business one loaf at a time.
