On April 26, 2024 a tornado hit Waterloo, NE. Our friends who let us use their land for our apiary almost lost everything. Only one of our sponsored hives survived. After digging out gear and supplies from the barn rubble it became apparent just how much was lost to the crushing winds. Brood boxes and supers disappeared snatched up by the tornado. We are thankful that the family who hosts our bees is safe. There is a lot of work left on the way to rebuilding.

This Memorial Day weekend I want to thank all my brothers and sisters in arms who gave the ultimate sacrifice. This year marks two years since we started Bee Reis. I’ve looked back many times in amazement of the obstacles we have overcome to be where we are now. Not many hobbies let you give back to veterans and the environment at once. A few years ago there was an article that showed veterans dealing with PTSD turned to bee keeping in a way to deal with anxiety and depression. This year we will be building the bee population and bringing more veterans who want to help their environment and maybe get some self-healing out of it as well.
