Spring days on the farm are full. You have the endless to do list along with the challenge of hoping the weather cooperates with your wishful plans. Luckily in Vermont, the sun has been shining and the steady winds have created excellent drying conditions for field preparation. This is our day neutral strawberry field (fall strawberries). All prepped and ready to lay beds for planting. Can’t wait for that first berry!

Happy Spring!
I am looking for help uncovering our strawberry fields on Saturday morning. The work entails pulling large blankets off the field. With a couple of people it goes smoothly. Most likely 5 hours of work.

Payment will be cash or farm credit. Please reach out if you are interested and available.

This is our strawberry field. Believe it or not the snowy winter is actually good for the plants. Strawberries get their name from the act of covering the plants with straw in the winter to protect them. These days people still use straw mulch for winter protection. In the case of our farm, we use giant blankets to cover them up. This tucks the plants in and insulates the crown of the plant for winter. This year the real gift is continual snow. It acts as a layer of insulation and protects the plants from both the cold and the tundra winds. So with this “real winter” we are having, we are grateful of all the snow. It’s wonderful to play in and it adds a layer of security to the strawberry plant’s survival and health. Thanks old man winter
