The future of local food can’t just happen at the farmers market.

If we want more local food on more local tables, we need more bridges between the farmers growing it and the families eating it.

🌱 Businesses can be one of those bridges.

That’s the idea behind our employer-sponsored Produce Boxes. A company partners with The Produce Box, we purchase seasonal produce from local farmers, pack boxes tailored to the team and season, and deliver them straight to the workplace for employees to take home and share with their families.

It’s an employee wellness benefit, a local purchasing decision, and a way to strengthen North Carolina’s food system.

Carolina Gold has entered the chat. 🍑

This one comes from Chesley Greene’s orchard in Lillesville, North Carolina, where he planted his first trees back in 1961. He still owns the farm today, and now it’s his son who handles the weekly deliveries to our warehouse.

We’ve sold over 7,000 Carolina peaches this year, and this variety might be our last for the season. Peach season here is short and sweet, we’re looking at maybe one more month before it’s gone.

It hasn’t been an easy year for our farmers. A drought hit in June, then July turned into one of the wettest months we’ve seen in years. Through it all, families like the Greenes keep showing up, season after season, on the same land they’ve worked since 1961.

Getting to support that kind of legacy directly? That’s what makes this peach taste even better.

From cyclospora to salmonella, the national food safety headlines are concerning.

But at The Produce Box, we’ve been charting a different way for 17 years.

We partner with over 100 North Carolina farmers and small food producers to offer home delivery of local food through our online farmers market.

We’ve got lettuce from growers we know by name, cage free (and salmonella free) eggs from just down the road, and over 500 local products every week.

Crest Havens just dropped. 🍑 Peach season doesn't last long, and every year we're reminded how much it takes to get one of these into a box.

We've also got to keep it real, because farming isn't always "peachy": one of our orchard partners, P*e Dee Orchards, let us know they're taking a pause right now. The drought has thrown off their ripening schedule, and the weather's been tough on them this year.

Knowing how hard our farmers work through years like this makes every peach we do get taste that much sweeter.

Grateful for this fruit, and for the people who grow it. Chappell Peaches is supplying Crest Havens and Messinas this week, plus we've got the last of the Organic China Pearls!
