Cantaloupe crop.
I’ve been having an over whelming amount of requests for cantaloupe.
Cantaloupe don’t like a lot of rain and we have been getting more than our fair share of rain.
The fruit doesn’t hold up very good.
To begin with the hybrids that I grow don’t have a good shelf life.
I started to pick today and every one that I picked had an issue. I decided I didn’t need to continue.
I know a lot of people are disappointed and I am too.
That is farming.
I have a later planting so maybe that will hopefully do better.

Too wet to pick.
Several weeks ago I was praising the Lord for the blessing of rain. For the last week I’ve been asking God, “What are you doing “?
In the vegetable business when we need the rain, it’s a blessing. When we don’t need it, it seems like a punishment.
Excess rain disrupts harvest schedules.
Cucumbers get too big for pickling.
Tomatoes crack.
Some produce is more prone to rot.
Weeds emerge and get out of control.
Even in life we get rainy spells. I think God uses those rainy spells to build our character.
I think if we can tough it out a little longer, the sun will eventually come out and dry things off and in 3 weeks we’ll be asking for some more rain.
Thanks to all who came out yesterday and picked what was available while it was dry.

Got some really nice cucumbers in the last couple of days. The recent rain has really made them grow. These were culled out of our pickling cucumbers.
Excellent for spears, bread n butter pickles, or salad.
The sliced cucumbers in the picture are over 6” long. The purpose of the picture is to show that these large cucumbers don’t have seeds developed yet.
