Lots going on elsewhere on the farm, sowing really ramping up now and it’ll be a push to keep up with getting everything planted out. We’ve been concentrating on the tunnel crops, hopefully we will have the majority of space planted up in the next 2 weeks as we shift our focus out to the field for the bulk of brassica and squash planting.
I’ve been ill on and off for the past 2 weeks which is tricky timing but maybe a result of the intensity of the job at this time of year! Ultimately we do what we can and knowing that we live securely and safely in our environment gives a healthy perspective on stress and pressure. 💚❤️🤍

Lettuce season returns. 🥰

We don’t grow lettuce over winter, we opt for mustards, endives, chicories and winter purslane as they gives us repeated healthy harvests over many cold and wet months. Our array of specially selected lettuce varieties really do make for an incredible summer leaf mix!

The spicy leaves and bitterness of the winter salad mix dispels feelings of over dampness and balances out a winter diet rich in fats and carbohydrates. The kick from a mustard leaf alleviates a cold or flu.
I love the turn of the season and the return of the fragrant lettuce leaf! Lettuce is soporific, meaning it can induce sleep and drowsiness, perhaps why Peter Rabbit was always dozing off. This feels like a perfect remedy for hectic, hot and busy summer days.

Just a few more weeks to wait! ☀️🥬

We are now almost out of our outdoor crops, with just some kalettes, kale and purple sprouting left to harvest. Inside the tunnel crops are starting to pop off to give us a steady supply of chard, salads and herbs until early June. We’re busy sowing and excited to share some new produce we will be growing for you this year!

A calm and serene harvest day yesterday and the mild weather is helping the crops along too.

I am in awe of Red Russian kale once again. Picking a decent crop of purplish hues from an early planting… from last year!

I had almost given up on these celeriacs but they have plumped out quite nicely and I’m hoping for more in the next couple of weeks.

The tunnels have seen an explosion of poppies in the coriander and calendula in the spring onions. The soil is looking lovely in here, really friable, crumbly and the plants are beaming with deep colour - a sign that the soil is providing! Woodchip working well it seems.

Outside is more drudgery as the rain continues to come down and being perpetually caked in mud is becoming tiring now. The garlics been given a mulch with our own compost to help lighten the water log.

This Saturday we are supporting at to fundraise for 3 charities in Palestine.
Live music and Djs to have a boogie all evening and some delicious food to share. Tickets available online , follow the link in Bio.

In April Molly will be making the journey to Gaza from the UK, through Europe and into Egypt. A journey that many take in reverse facing prohibited movement in uncertain and unsafe conditions. The borders to Palestine remain closed.
Palestine is still occupied, Gaza is still under siege and Palestinians are still denied access to basic human needs, including the right to farmland, seeds and production of vital, deeply cultural foods.
