These hooligans went 1 mile away from the house today. It’s been much to quiet around here lately, something was bound to happen. They were eager to get back home tho.

Ali is pretty much back to square one. She did good for a few days and then showed signs of mastitis in another quarter. I do believe this is caused from the stress of weaning and holding back milk for a non drinking calf. We are going to taper off her milk production, dry her off, do a hard reset and pray for a miracle. Yesterday we started once a day milking and she came in this morning practically milking herself.

About 1 cup of salt to 1 gallon of water.

Why would someone who milks a cow care about that?

That’s right, folks — science is cool, and so is our milk. 🧪🐄

One of the quickest ways to chill raw milk is a salt water ice bath. We’ve talked about it before, but it’s worth repeating — raw milk stays fresher and tastes better when it’s cooled fast after milking.

To keep top quality, raw milk should drop to below 40°F within 1 hour.
A regular ice bath works, but a salt water ice bath gets even colder and chills milk even faster.

Fast chill = fresher milk = happy milk drinkers.
