My Mother's Garden We are a diversified family farm business using organic and permaculture methods. We raise grass-fed beef and chickens for eggs.

My Mother's Garden was founded in 1990 on our family farm of 90 acres in south Hillsborough County. The pastures are home to laying hens (in movable coops) that produce delicous and nutritious brown and green eggs.

The beautyberries are starting to bloom. We'll have jelly in a couple of months.

From our garden our garden this week.... cilantro, Tom Thumb lettuce, watermelon and baby Daikon radishes, zucchini, Blue and Ragged Jack kale bunches, tatsoi, sour orange, starfruit, Duncan grapefruit. We'll be at the Gulfport Tuesday Market in front of Stella's restaurant 9:00-3:00.

Sanbokan is a sweet lemon originating in Japan. It is easy to peel with a moderately heavy rind. The flesh tastes like sweet lemonade. The season is short on these fruits and we won't have many. Duncan Grapefruit was the first grapefruit in America and was planted in Safety Harbor by Odet Philippi. Pale yellow flesh has an excellent balance of sweetness and tartness.

Sour Orange - a squeeze of this is good on anything.... chicken, pork, fish, rice and beans. Makes a great Orange Blossom Pie.

These are old fashioned fruits with lots of seeds and lots of flavor.
