COPAL
… is the correct answer to the question we asked you the other day! It is our newest product that will be sold at this weekend ✨
So, what is Copal?
Sacred White Copal is a resin produced by trees of the Bursera family, which grow in Central America. The name “Copal” comes from the Aztec word “Copalli”, which means “resin producing plant”. The trees use their resin as a protection against pests and herbivores, and bees often collect copal resin to protect their hive against pests in the same way. How cool is that! 🐝
The “Copal tree” is seen as a sacred and medicinal tree in the Mayan culture. Its resin has been used for thousands of years in Mesoamerica, mainly by Aztec and Mayan peoples, in rituals as sacred incense, for healing and as offerings.
The resin is often burned on charcoal, which makes it give off an aromatic, white smoke. It is believed that the smoke opens up the channel for humans to communicate with the spirit realm and carries prayers through the air element to the ancestors. Copal resin is also burned to cleanse and purify spaces and energies, uplift the mood, and create a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Copal is even used medicinally to treat various ailments such as congestion, cough and head aches. The fragrance of the smoke has a relaxing effect on the nervous system, while gently supporting the ability to focus.
When used mindfully and respectfully, Copal is a great ally for a grounded spiritual practice - to cleanse ritual tools, Cacao blocks, sacred spaces, homes, and your own field of energy.
