Admittedly they’ve been flown halfway across the world, but that’s even more reason to appreciate & enjoy them. Nothing goes to waste in the kitchen & even the wonkiest fruit & veg can be made into something delicious. This chutney first came about as a gift for a friend who came from New Zealand & didn’t have a sweet tooth. That was many years ago & it has now become a family favourite.
Naturally it’s gluten free & vegan & contains no artificial additives or preservatives.

We grew so much amazing fruit & vegetable last summer from our allotment & garden, most of which needs preserving straightaway. It’s important to preserve the soft fruits & berries straightaway as pectin levels diminish. Most of our pears & apples went to jams & chutneys & the crabapples made sweet & savoury jellies. We were overwhelmed with the number of grapes on our vine, we even had strangers coming to the house to ask us what variety they were. I wondered if I could dehydrate them & was lucky enough to find my friend had just what I needed.
It does take time, several hours in fact but the results were well worth the wait. Home grown fruit, nothing added & zero air miles.
I used it to make granola & served it with handmade yoghurt. It is made on their farm with ewe’s milk & nothing added but culture. If you’ve never tried it you’re in for a treat!

Was feeling quite lethargic this morning until I was gifted two tubs of freshly picked, locally grown, Apricots plus some redcurrants. There’s no time like the present when preserving, particularly in the warmer weather. The natural pectin in the fruit decreases as it ripens making it harder to reach setting point. I am preparing them now & have decided to make a small batch of my much loved Apricot & Amaretto Jam. I also fancy making an Apricot & Walnut chutney which will be maturing until it’s ready to eat at the end of next month.
Fresh Apricots are a fabulous summer fruit with a short season so make the most of them while you can!

Thirty jars of chutney going over to tomorrow. Sweet & Sour Pickled Cucumber with turmeric is fabulous with burgers, humus & sandwiches. The Spiced Carrot Chutney with Cardamom is a wonderful accompaniment to your cheese board or to enjoy with poppadoms. Whichever flavour you choose they are all gluten free, vegan & handmade with love.
Chunky Piccalilli is on the agenda next week along with some gorgeous, high fruit jams.

Hello, it’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. During that time, we’ve welcomed an adorable granddaughter into the family. We’ve spent time catching up with old friends & working on our allotment. I made these Pistachio, Rose & Almond cakes for a Middle Eastern, themed family lunch today. They are gluten & dairy free & served with whipped, plant based double cream.
This reminded me of the very popular Peach & Pistachio Preserve I made a couple of years ago. Another fruity, Summer preserve is a Raspberry & Pistachio Jelly. It tastes like Turkish Delight & is divine on freshly baked scones with clotted cream. Last week I was busy making Apricot & Amaretto Jam, Fresh Lemon Curd with Limoncello, Chilli Jam & Sweet & Sour Pickled Cucumber.
I have made so many different flavoured jams over the years, let me know if there’s a flavour you miss.
