We designed a pizza for Petrone's actual menu 🍕🇮🇹
This might be the most fun we've had making a video. Petrone's — the family-run Italian pizzeria in Edenvale ,East Rand (real Napoli family, wood-fired oven) — let us design a pizza for their menu. One pizza. So naturally, we made four, brought the boys, and turned it into a proper taste-off.
Here's how it went down:
🐟 The Anchovies — here's the funny part: all of us LOVED it. A genuine 9/10. But we all knew the truth — put anchovies on a Joburg menu and most people run. So the best-loved pizza of the night never stood a chance.
🌶️ The Bush — pepperoni, bacon, jalapeños and a honey drizzle. Sweet meets heat. 9/10.
🥩 The Ron — prosciutto, sun-dried tomato, rocket, balsamic. Classy. The pizza wears a suit. 9.5 — highest score of the night. It should've won…
🏆 The Kief Deal Bandit — salami, bacon, peppadews, creamy cheese, fresh avo, rocket, balsamic. Also 9.5 — a tie at the top. So how'd we break it? The Ron was gorgeous, but Petrone's already make something like it. The Bandit had everything people actually love on one pizza — that ultimate flavour combo that just works, everywhere. Salty, creamy, fresh, tangy. Nobody said no to it. That's what goes on a menu.
🦑 And a bonus: we tried Petrone's mussels on a whim — creamy, garlicky, unreal. 8.5/10.

Tuesday buy-1-get-1-free pregos in Dowerglen 🇵🇹 Sr Frango + Old Fashioned Fish & Chips
Here's an honest one — and a genuinely good midweek deal for the community, even if the spot itself isn't going to be my regular.
Sr Frango (Portuguese) and Old Fashioned Fish & Chips share one shop on Linksfield Road, Dowerglen — one kitchen, two menus. I'll be straight with you: I found it a bit pricey for what you get. I had the full calamari strips (R105) — genuinely tasty, an 8 on flavour — but you pay R10 extra for tartar sauce and it doesn't come with a side, which for a takeaway pushes the value down to a 6.5. My wife had the beef prego (R89), which was fine — a 7.
So personally, it's not a place I'd rush back to. BUT — here's why this is worth your attention: on Tuesdays they run a "Prego Madness Special" — buy one get one free on ALL pregos, beef or chicken. That deal is genuinely good value, an 8.5 from me. One for you, one for someone else.
As always, I paid my own bill and I'm giving it to you straight — my personal feelings aside, that Tuesday deal is a solid shout.

School holiday thing to do in Joburg 🤯 Museum of Illusions, Rosebank — is it worth it?
With the school holidays coming up, here's something a bit different to do with the family in Joburg — and an honest take on whether it's worth your money.
The Museum of Illusions in The Zone @ Rosebank is part of a global brand, and it's exactly what it sounds like: mind-bending rooms, optical illusions, infinity mirrors and trippy walls that mess with your head in the best way. Matt, my wife and I went through it and genuinely had a cool time — as an experience, I'd give it a solid 8/10.
Now, being honest as always: it's R250 per person (about £11), and you'll get through the whole thing in around 40 minutes. So it's a fun experience, but it's not cheap and it's not a deal — on value for money, that's a 6/10 from me.
A few useful heads-ups:
👁️ After all the illusions, your eyes and head genuinely feel a bit dizzy and sore, so ease back into the day.
💳 It's card only — they don't take cash.
🧒 It's not really one for the very little kids (they won't have the patience).
Verdict: worth doing once, and a genuinely fun holiday outing if you go in knowing what it is.

Half-price pizza & milkshakes at Kota Joe's, Edenvale 🍕🥤 An honest look
Not every spot is a 10/10 — and that's exactly why you can trust the ones that are. So here's an honest one.
Kota Joe's in Edenvale is a proper roadhouse — cool setup, nicely done. Quick heads-up though: Van Riebeeck Avenue can get a little dodgy late at night, so I'd go earlier rather than later.
They run two deals worth knowing about:
🍕 Mondays — half-price pizza
🥤 Wednesdays — half-price basic milkshakes
On value, those deals are genuinely good — I'd give the deal an 8.5/10. But being straight with you: the pizza itself is a 7 (my wife had it, it's not something I'd order), and the basic milkshake is a 7.5.
Here's the honest insider bit — if it were my money, I'd skip the deal and order two things instead. First, a kota. I had the Jozi (R90) — polony, Viennas, egg and all the proper local stuff, big and juicy and saucy. Taste an 8, though it's a bit pricey for a sandwich stuffed with chips, so value's a 7.5. And second, their specialty milkshakes — they're NOT on the deal, but they're honestly some of the best I've ever had.

Real Napoli family pizza in the East Rand 🍕🇮🇹 Petrone's Pizzeria
A few of you asked me to go show our neighbourhood favourite some love — so this one's a little different. No deal hunt, just a genuinely great family restaurant worth supporting.
Petrone's is the real deal. Massimiliano came over from Napoli, Italy, and in 2014 built this pizzeria with his wife Colette. It's family-owned, wood-fired, made with proper Italian ingredients — and you can taste the difference in the dough. Their motto says it all: "There is only one."
We went big. Jacky had the Don Peppe, I had the Don Petrone — creamy, rich, loaded with flavour. Both a strict 9/10 (and I don't hand those out easily). The kiddies pizza was simple and perfect too.
Honesty time, because that's the whole point of this channel: Colette insisted on treating our family, so this was a hosted meal. As always, that doesn't soften my scores one bit — and hand on heart, Petrone's is our family's genuine favourite new pizza spot.
On value: their large Standard pizzas are R130–R140, where a lot of places charge R150+ for less. They've even got a loyalty card — every 10th visit over R300, you get a R300 meal free.

Sunday Prawn Feast — 21 prawns for R199.95 at Vini's, Bedfordview 🦐🇿🇦
If you love prawns, this is the Sunday plan.
Vini's in Bedfordview — a proper Italian restaurant that's been going for years, with wood-fired ovens and live music on a Sunday — runs a Sunday Prawn Feast that genuinely surprised me. For R199.95 you get 21 prawns in three different sizes: 12 princess, 6 queen and 3 big king prawns, served with rice, lemon butter sauce and peri peri.
And they're properly done. What impressed me is that every size was cooked spot on — the little princess prawns still juicy, the kings meaty and full of flavour. That's not easy to pull off across three sizes on one plate. An honest 9/10 on the prawns.
For a sit-down spot with this quality and a live singer going while you eat, R200 is a genuine steal — value 8.5/10 (about £9). As always, I paid my own bill and showed the slip. 🧾
A few notes: it's available all day Sunday, sit-down only, and you need to buy a beverage to qualify. (They also run pasta and pizza specials during the week — I'll cover those another day.)

Upmarket Mediterranean steak for R130 in Linksfield — Club Como 🥩🇿🇦
I've been sitting on this one for a while, and it's time it saw the light.
I went for lunch in the Neighbourhood Square in Linksfield and just picked the restaurant with the best-looking deal board — Club Como, a modern Mediterranean spot. R130 for a Greek-style rump. I honestly didn't realise how upmarket the place was going to be for that price. It's the kind of spot you'd expect to pay a lot more at.
Now, full honesty — because that's the whole point of this channel. I came to pay my own way. But the owners saw me filming, and insisted on comping the meal. So I did the only thing that felt right: I ordered a second meal so I'd still be spending money there. They comped that one too. So this is a hosted review — and as always, that doesn't change my scores one bit.
🥩 Greek-style rump (R130) — 9/10. Flame grilled, olive oil, lemon, origanum. Excellent.
🌯 Gyro wrap (R125) — 8.5/10. Char-grilled, warm, proper Mediterranean.
💰 Value: 8.5/10 — for how upmarket it feels, that's a genuine steal (~£6 a plate).
They also do outside catering if you're planning an event.
📍 Club Como has two branches: Linksfield (The Neighbourhood Square, cnr Club St & Linksfield Rd) and Morningside (Morningside Shopping Centre). Lunch menu Mon–Fri, 11am–5pm.

Cheap pizza deal in Edenvale — Pizza Baby, Dunvegan 🍕🇿🇦
Found a funky little pizza shop in Dunvegan that's quietly one of the best-value orders in the area — and it saves you money in two different ways.
First, the special: buy two large pizzas, and for just R35 extra (about £1.50) you get 8 chicken wings AND a 1.5L Coke. That turns an average-priced pizza order into a proper deal.
Second — and this is the one people forget — Pizza Baby does their own deliveries at their own prices. When you order the same pizzas through Uber Eats or Mr D, you're hit with inflated menu prices plus service and delivery fees. On a big family order for 3–6 people, that markup can cost you hundreds of rand extra. Order direct and you keep that money in your pocket.
My honest scores: the pizza is a solid 7.5/10, the wings are a genuinely good 8.5/10, and the deal itself is an 8/10.
As always, I paid my own bill — and this time I show the card tap on the machine too, not just the slip. Some of you have asked, fair enough. 🧾

We hit 1,000 followers on Instagram — so I did something ridiculous to say thank you. 🎉
