Today I want to share something that helps me live authentically as me. I hope this is educational as well. There's been much "chatter" in the news over Pride Flags. This is the Pride flag and many people don’t know the true meaning behind it.
The Pride flag is more than bright colors. Each stripe was intentionally designed to represent values and parts of the LGBTQ+ community.
The original rainbow flag by Gilbert Baker included:
❤️Red – Life
🧡Orange – Healing
💛Yellow – Sunlight
💚Green – Nature
💙Blue – Harmony
💜Violet – Spirit
Over time, the Pride flag expanded to increase visibility and inclusion.
The 🖤 black and 🤎brown stripes represent LGBTQ+ people of color and acknowledge those we have lost to HIV/AIDS.
The 🩵light blue, 🩷pink, and 🤍white stripes represent the transgender community.
The 💛yellow triangle with the 💜purple circle represents the inters*x community.
Inters*x people are born with natural variations in s*x characteristics, such as chromosomes, hormones, or anatomy, that do not fit typical definitions of male or female bodies.
The 💜purple circle symbolizes wholeness and bodily autonomy. It represents the belief that inters*x people are complete as they are and deserve the right to exist without being pressured to change.
Every stripe matters. Every color carries meaning.
For me, this flag represents visibility, dignity, and the freedom to live authentically.
Education creates understanding and understanding builds stronger communities. I hope you find this educational.
