BREAKING NEWS | According to reports by SABC News, South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal has set aside an August 2025 ruling by the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria that had declared the Zambian government entitled to repatriate the remains of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu for a state funeral and burial in Zambia.

The decision marks a significant development in the legal dispute over the burial arrangements of the late former president, who died in South Africa on June 5, 2025, while receiving medical treatment.

TODAY Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa is EXPECTED to Deliver Verdict on ECL Funeral and Burial.

The South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal will deliver its ruling on June 23, 2026, regarding the legal dispute over the final burial arrangements of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

The court is reviewing an appeal filed by the Lungu family, which seeks to overturn a previous Pretoria High Court judgment.

That lower court had ruled in favor of the Zambian government, directing that Mr. Lungu’s remains be repatriated from South Africa to Zambia for a state funeral.

TRUCK KILLS GIRL, THREE, IN SIAVONGA

A three-year-old girl from Siavonga district has died after being hit by a Hino Dutro truck in the Kariba Store area.

The victim has been identified as Blessing Mika Hangombe, with the accident reported to have occurred around 11:30 hours on 9th June, 2026.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Siavonga District Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle, Cleaver Mugoba, fled the scene following the accident.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, says the accident occurred when the driver, due to causes yet to be established, lost control of the motor vehicle.

In the process, the victim who was in front of the vehicle got hit.

Mourners Gather at Mpezeni’s Ephendukeni Palace

Mourners, including Ngoni chiefs, have gathered at Ephendukeni Palace in Chief Mpezeni’s area following the death of Paramount Chief MPEZENI.

The Paramount Chief died in Lusaka yesterday.

Traditional leaders, relatives and other mourners have since begun arriving at the palace to pay their respects and take part in early mourning arrangements.

The atmosphere at Ephendukeni Palace IS solemn as word of the passing spread across the Ngoni nation.

Details surrounding funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, with more information expected in due course.

The late Paramount Chief MPEZENI was one of Zambia’s senior traditional leaders and a key figure within the Ngoni cultural leadership structure.
