As female Pekin ducks mature, you may notice the feathers on the back of their necks becoming worn or thinner, while the drakes (males) keep their full, beautiful plumage.

Why does this happen?
During mating, the drake gently holds the female by the back of her neck, and over time this can cause the feathers in that area to wear away.

However, don't use neck feathers alone to judge fertility. Some females may have little or no feather wear and still produce fertile eggs, while others may lose feathers for different reasons.

If you are breeding ducks, the best way to confirm fertility is by checking the eggs after incubation or candling them.
Healthy ducks and proper drake-to-duck ratios are key to good fertility and successful hatching. 💛🐥

Ever wondered why Pekin ducklings are bright yellow, but grow into beautiful white ducks?

The answer is simple: those fluffy yellow ducklings are pure Pekin ducks!

As they grow, their soft yellow down is naturally replaced by white adult feathers. It's a normal part of their development, not a sign that they have changed breeds.

So, if you are looking to raise pure white Pekin ducks, don't be surprised when the ducklings you receive are yellow. That's exactly what you should expect!
