toda, I am very saddened. 💔 and Worried for our Children in School.
Earlier today, I came across a video circulating online showing a child having a confrontation with about four teachers while someone was recording him. From what I have read in the comments, the child was suspected to have been smelling or using w**d, though I cannot confirm that for certain.
As someone who once trained and practiced as a teacher, this situation really disturbed me. One of the reasons I gradually lost interest in the profession was witnessing how, sometimes, pupils are treated unfairly. During my teaching practice, I saw instances where pupils were punished unnecessarily or not treated with the honesty and understanding they deserved.
What concerns me most about this video is that the teachers took time to record a child who clearly seemed to be in distress, instead of focusing on helping him. If the teachers believed that the child had taken drugs, then it should have been clear that the child was not in the right state of mind and needed help. Some of these pupils come from destroyed homes and can be helped in school, you could feel that despite what might have been a problem the child has so much going on in his heart.
Schools have systems for situations like this. That is why there are Guidance and Counselling offices, all of us teachers have an idea of Human psychology because we learn that. The proper approach would have been to sit the child down, involve guidance and counselling, engage the family, and follow the appropriate procedures. If there was indeed a drug problem, then the child should have been directed toward professional help or rehabilitation services such as those available at Chainama Hills Hospital, where individuals struggling with substance abuse can receive support, Instead, what we saw was teachers recording the incident and even suggesting that the video would be shared on Facebook. That is deeply troubling. Teachers are supposed to protect pupils
