Zambia Targets Trade Growth - HH
By Justine Akakulubelwa
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says Government is accelerating economic reforms aimed at expanding trade and investment partnerships.
President HICHILEMA says the reforms are intended to position the country on a sustainable growth path following the completion of the debt restructuring process.
The President said this at State House in Lusaka when he received Letters of Credence from Ambassadors and High Commissioners representing Tanzania, Indonesia, Greece, Gabon, Norway and Mexico.
President HICHILEMA said Zambia has now moved onto a growth trajectory after overcoming the countryβs debt restructuring challenges.
He said Government remains focused on creating a stable and predictable environment for trade and investment.
President HICHILEMA said Zambiaβs foreign policy remains centred on peace, security, stability and economic diplomacy.
He said peace and stability are critical to economic development, adding that instability in one part of the world eventually affects all nations through disruptions in global supply chains and rising business costs.
The President cited the war in Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East as examples of conflicts affecting economies worldwide through imported inflation and increased fuel prices.
President HICHILEMA also referred to the Strait of Hormuz, which handles a significant share of global fuel supplies, saying disruptions in the area continue to affect fuel and petrochemical prices across Africa and other parts of the world.
He said the digital era should bring countries closer together through stronger partnerships and shared economic opportunities.
Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA encouraged countries without resident diplomatic missions in Zambia to establish embassies in Lusaka in order to promote closer engagement, investment promotion and daily economic cooperation.
