Drinking and partying around your kids is not normal.
I remember when I was younger all the adults would party all night long, it would start off as laughing and having fun. Later on in the night it would turn into yelling and arguing, then fighting and glass smashing. I remember watching their eyes change to a red glossy tint and their words would turn into slurs. A few chosen kids would be offered a sip of beer, while parents would laugh and joke about it. Parents were introducing you to random people inside of your home. “Give Aunty/Uncle a hug” with the smell of beer breath in their mouths. Sometimes those adults would hurt some of the children, this happened in so many homes 🥺 The next morning, the house would be a mess, the smell of ci******es and spilt beer on the floor would fill the house. Adults would be sleeping on the couch, the chairs, different rooms, at the table and even on the floor. Empty beer cans/bottles would be all over the house and the fridge and cupboards would be empty. Then you’re left sitting there all alone, in the cleanest spot you can find, trying to find something to eat.
This isn’t a normal childhood, this was my childhood and that of so many others like me.
A sober us today, will be sitting next to children while we laugh and joke, show children some funny videos and tell them you love them. There are no alcohol bottles to pick up, there’s food in the fridge and there is peace in the air.
I’m glad that I suffered so they dont have to ❤️ Break that cycle of alcohol in our homes, your children will benefit from it.
