¶Is a fairly common, but potentially life-threatening, condition that occurs when the vent of a baby chick gets clogged with dried f***s.
¶If not treated quickly, it can be fatal because the baby chick is unable to eliminate its p**p.
¶If you are just starting out with your first baby chicks, then you should be aware of this condition.
¶Is common in chicks but not in adult chickens.
¶It is also called , or .
¶It is a situation whereby dry droppings seal off the vent of chicks so that they’re unable to pass out droppings.
¶This is a serious condition that needs immediate attention.
¶So it is very important that you always keep an eye out for signs pasted vent.

♣️ * ©?*
------------------------------------->
¶ * * is the condition in which f***s gets stuck in the baby chick’s vent,
¶Dries up and literally stops up the chick so it can’t p**p.
¶The dried-up f***s acts like a cork.
¶Sadly, it can kill the chick fairly quickly if it's not treated quickly,
¶So knowing how to spot - and treat - pasty butt is a critical part of caring for baby chicks.
¶Checking for * * is important whenever you hatch chicks or purchase day old chicks.
¶ * * is generally caused by stress or uneven temperature changes.
¶Chicks that hatch under a mother hen rarely suffer from pasty butt.

♠️ * *
---------------------------------------------->
° ✅Lack of appetite
° ✅Lethargy (weakness)
° ✅Huddling near heat source
° ✅Fluffed up downs.
¶Pasting occurs only when the vent is sealed off.
¶It is usually unnecessary to clean this off.
¶However, if it is a thick mass of droppings, clean it off.
¶Chicks that are hatched in an incubator
¶Chicks that are shipped through the mail
¶But it’s good to get into the habit of checking all your baby chicks for * * religiously for the first few days of their life.
¶It's unlikely that they will get it after the first several days.

♠️ * ?*
----------------------------------------------->
¶Fortunately, * * is easy to treat.
¶ can be caused by anything that stresses the chicks or by anything that cause loose/watery droppings.
¶Cold and too high temperature can cause it.
¶Under high temperature, the birds drink more water and this result in loose droppings.
¶Worms, coccidiosis, illness, conditions that cause diarrhea etc can also cause pasting.

♣️ * ©*
--------------------------------->
¶Remove the dropping blocking the vent.
¶If it is soft, you can simply remove it with a stick.
¶If it is dry and hard, it would require soaking with warm water.
¶Rarely, the dry droppings will extend into the vent.
¶In this case, warm, food grade oil can help loosen the mass so that it can be passed.
¶After removing the past, ensure that you clean and thoroughly dry the chicks before returning her to the brooder, else she might get chilled and the problem will reoccur.
¶✅ Q-tip or cotton swab
¶✅ Small pair of scissors
¶✅ Vegetable or olive oil
¶✅ ESB3
¶Moisten a q-tip with some warm water, then gently remove the dried f***s and spread oil on the vent.
¶Once the vent is cleared, dab a bit of oil around the vent area to prevent further clogging.
¶For stubborn clumps, you can carefully snip away the down around the vent with the scissors, but be careful not to inadvertently cut the chick's skin.
¶Don't pull or yank the down out.
¶Continue to monitor the afflicted chick for the first few days to be sure the condition doesn't recur, and swab with a moistened Q-tip again if it does.
¶Since chicks are not able to regulate their body temperature and can quickly get chilled and die if they get wet, you don’t want to actually bathe the chick.
¶Just wet right around the vent area.
¶There are several things you can do to prevent * :
✅ add a bit of ground raw oats or cornmeal to the chick feed.
✅ add probiotic powder to the feed to balance gut bacteria and help prevent diarrhoea.
✅ don't unnecessarily stress your chicks with loud noises, pets or children.
✅ use a good quality incubator and keep the temperature constant.
✅ keep the brooder temperature constant using a heat lamp.
¶Avoid chilling or overheating by providing the correct brooder temperature for the chicken age.
¶Prevent disease and parasite infections by observing strict biosecurity measures, keep the brooder clean and dry.
¶The Navel a new chick for a pasted vent!
¶While the vent is beneath the tail, the navel is further down toward the legs/belly.
-> If you remove the scab over an open navel, the chick will likely die and miserably.
-> If you suspect that the pasting is due to illness, call in a vet for proper treatment.

¶The "WHITE" you see is often on these specific structures:
*1. :*
¶The fleshy, bulbous bumps on the head and neck that change color based on mood.
*2. :*
¶The fleshy appendage that hangs over the beak; it can also change color and length during displays.
*3. :*
¶The flap of skin under the chin, which is most often red but can shift in hue.

📢 * :*
¶They can switch between , , and in seconds, with RED often indicating fear or submission, while white can show dominance.
¶Turkeys can rapidly change the skin color on their heads and necks to bright * , , or * depending on their mood, excitement, or aggression.
¶ *A TURKEY’s HEAD* is normally bright red due to blood vessels near the skin.

📢 * :*
¶Rarely, a wild turkey may display a "red phase" or erythristic color, featuring reddish hues in their feathers, though this is uncommon.
¶A RED HEAD on a turkey generally signifies intense emotion, such as fear, stress, or excitement.
® *MOOD INDICATOR :*
¶"TURKEY RED" is historically known as a vibrant red dye for cotton.
® *SIGN OF EMOTION :*
¶When a turkey is excited, scared, or aggressive, the head can flush intensely red.

📢 * *
®Why Turkeys Turn White....
¶The color changes are caused by blood vessels and collagen (connective tissue) under the skin:
*1. :*
¶When a tom is strutting or showing off for females, blood flow changes, exposing more white collagen bands, which makes the head appear bright7 white.
*2. :*
¶The head typically turns bright red when the bird is angry or feeling threatened.
*3. :*
¶A blue or pale blue tint often indicates the turkey is calm or, in some cases, submissive or scared.

📢 * *
¶A turkey's head can turn blue to indicate its emotional state, specifically when it is feeling calm, relaxed, or submissive.
¶Because of this ability to shift colors, turkeys are often referred to as "Nature's Mood Rings".
®Why their heads turn blue...
¶The skin on a turkey's head and neck contains dense arrays of blood vessels interspersed with bands of collagen.
* :*
¶When a turkey is relaxed, blood flow to the head decreases.
¶This allows the collagen fibers to contract or become more exposed, which changes the way light scatters off the skin.
¶a process similar to why the sky appears blue.
* :*
¶While blue typically signals a calm or content bird, some observations suggest it can also appear when a turkey is startled or scared.

19/03/2026

📢
--------------------------------------------------->
-To keep fertile eggs before incubating, store them for no more than 7-10 days in a clean, cool, stable environment at (10-15°C) and ~70-80% humidity, storing them with the large end up in an egg carton, and avoid washing them to preserve their natural protective coating.

1.
---------------------------------------------->
- Temperature: Keep eggs in a cool but not cold place, ideally between (10-15°C).
- A refrigerator is too cold and its humidity is too low.
- Humidity: Aim for a stable humidity of 70-80% to prevent the eggs from drying out.
- If the environment is dry, a small bowl of water or a damp sponge can help.

2.
------------------------------>
-Orientation: -Store the eggs in an egg carton with the large end pointing upward to keep the air cell in the correct place.
-Duration: -Collect eggs within 5-7days (summer), 7-10days (winter) , as longer storage can significantly reduce the hatch rate.
-Cleanliness: -Do not wash eggs, as this removes a natural protective coating that keeps bacteria out.
-Only incubate clean eggs;

3.
----------------------------------------->
-Temperature Equalization: -Before placing eggs into the incubator, let them sit at room temperature for 6-24 hours to prevent condensation from forming on the shells.
-Condensation can seep into the pores and introduce bacteria to the embryo.

¶A chicken egg forms through a carefully timed process inside the hen’s reproductive system.

¶It begins in the o***y, where a yolk develops and is released into the infundibulum, the first section of the oviduct.

¶As the yolk travels through the oviduct, layers of albumen (egg white) are added to protect and nourish the developing egg.

¶The egg then moves through the isthmus, where shell membranes form around it, providing structure and defense.

¶Finally, in the shell gland, a hard calcium shell is deposited before the fully formed egg is laid.

¶A chicken is made up of several different parts that are commonly used in cooking.

¶The main meat cuts include the breast, thighs, drumsticks, and wings, which come from different areas of the chicken’s body.

¶Each part has a different texture and flavor, making them suitable for various cooking methods such as frying, grilling, or roasting.

¶In addition to the meat cuts, chickens also have edible organs like the liver, heart, and gizzard.

¶Understanding the different parts of a chicken helps people prepare and cook poultry more effectively.
