The business began as a small husband a wife team specializing in wholesale meat sales back in 1985. David and Cathy ventured into the retail meat trade by renovating and re-opening a deserted butcher shop in the Old Butter Factory by the Mitchell River. It soon became a popular shopping destination with the locals, the top quality meat, great butcher shop service and easy parking drawing them in. But being situated next to the magnificent Mitchell River had one BIG disadvantage – the 5 to 7 year major flood! So after 2 nail biting floods and clean ups, the decision was made to purchase the big grey shed on the hill across the road that NEVER went under water! After a magnificent renovation, the shed became a fresh food market, offering customers not only meat, but seafood, fruit and vegetables and groceries too. The new market went from strength to strength and now employees fifty local staff. It has become a local institution of the Gippsland Area, providing a unique shopping experience to locals and visitors alike. As they say, “You got to get down to Luckies”
