Birdwood Venison is a true paddock-to-plate story.

Mike and Nancy — originally known as the Deer Farm — have been raising European Fallow Deer for stud since 1987. With more than 30 years of careful breeding behind them, they’re renowned for their quality breeding program and deep respect for their animals.

Set on 40 acres in Birdwood, their herd roam freely and are raised with a strong focus on low-stress, ethical management. Birdwood Venison was created as a natural extension of that philosophy — ensuring a thoughtful, nose-to-tail approach that honours the whole animal.

Each Saturday you’ll find venison cuts, sausages, mettwurst, pies, venison jerky and even antlers for dogs to chew at their stall. Nancy’s famous venison pies are a market favourite — and yes, they always sell out!

If you’re new to cooking venison, just ask — Mike and Nancy love sharing tips and recipes. One of their favourites? Slow-cooked rolled venison shoulder with rich, delicious gravy. Perfect for a cosy weekend meal.
