A myth worth busting.
Most home spice racks have at least one jar that is older than the children of the house.
The truth is that spices are not non-perishable. They go stale, slowly and quietly. The little jar of paprika you bought in 2019 is technically still safe to eat, but the flavour is long gone, which is why your roast chicken never quite tastes the way it did the first time you made it.
A quick test. Open a jar and smell it. If you cannot tell what it is supposed to be in two seconds, it is past its best.
This weekend, do an audit. You will be horrified, and your cooking will thank you.
Tell us in the comments. What is the oldest jar in your spice rack?
